Higo Magalhães faz últimos acertos visando estreia do Camboriú no Catarinense

Colwill has been a regular at the heart of defence for Enzo Maresca as well as featuring in England squads throughout the 2024-25 campaign. He believes he can do better, however, and admits he is striving for huge improvement.

Colwill told reporters: "I am nowhere near where I would like to be. Defending one-v-one has been tough, but I think I’ve proved that I’m getting a bit better. I’m good at times when I’m trying to make passes and there are other times where I’ve been a bit lazy. We all know how big this club is and how the culture of the club has always been to win. We're just trying to reinforce that to the young boys, to the boys coming in, that this club is for winners only. That’s what we need to strive towards."

The club hope several of their best young players are beginning to develop the snarl and mentality that defined the era of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba in the noughties. Colwill insists following in their footsteps is "what we want to do".

Evison, Compton centuries help Kent recover from early strife against Yorkshire

Superb centuries for Joey Evison and Ben Compton helped champions Kent recover from early strife and later survive a Matthew Revis hat-trick to get their Metro Bank One-Day Cup title defence off to a winning start against Yorkshire at soggy Scarborough. The Spitfires, having slipped to 49 for 4 after 15 overs after being inserted, posted 282 for 9 before a trio of rain delays revised the home target to 261 in 43 overs, 235 in 35 and finally 181 in 24.Kent only won this one by two runs on Duckworth Lewis Stern, owing to late drama. After the third delay, Yorkshire resumed on 53 for 2 after 11 overs and raced to 117 for four after 17, only for more rain to leave them three runs short of a winning target.Ben Coad struck three times with the new ball in helpful conditions for Yorkshire, bowling his 10 overs straight through for 3 for 16.But Evison and opener Compton played contrasting innings – 136 off 106 balls and 103 off 137 – to share Kent’s List A record 219 inside 33 overs for the fifth wicket. All-rounder Revis then claimed a hat-trick as five wickets fell in the last 15 balls of the visiting innings.Evison, 21, was the player of the match in last season’s final win over Lancashire at Trent Bridge with 97 and two wickets, and he counter-attacked here to push on from 84 for 4 after 25 overs.Having offered a tough chance to diving Dom Bess at midwicket on nought off Dom Leech, he hit three of seven sixes to leg, including one over wide long-leg off Ben Mike to reach his hundred.Excellent Coad had opener Marcus O’Riordan caught at first slip and former team-mate Jack Leaning and then Harry Finch both caught behind on a nibbling pitch. George Hill, who also bowled his 10 overs straight, claimed the other early wicket.Left-hander Compton clipped the only boundary which Coad conceded but was in rebuild mode.Evison then whipped a six off Coad to begin the counter-attack. And by the time they both reached fifties, Kent were 143 for 4 in the 34th over.Having regained a foothold in the innings, Compton then increased his tempo and was strong through the off-side en-route to his third career century off 135 balls. But Evison had overtaken him in the early eighties and raced through the nineties to reach his second career ton first – reached off 84 balls (216 for four in the 42nd over). But, with 300 on the cards, Revis limited the damage by getting James Bazley and Grant Stewart caught at deep square-leg and Hami Qadri bowled in the penultimate over.Five wickets fell in the last 15 balls, including Evison and Compton, as Yorkshire’s director of cricket Darren Gough watched on. He had taken two of the previous four List A hat-tricks for the county. After mid-innings rain, Gough saw Yorkshire lose Fin Bean to Australian debutant Bazley’s seam to the fifth ball of their chase, Qadri taking a smart catch at point. But the Vikings, after a further brief stoppage, were recovering through wicketkeeper opener Harry Duke and his captain Shan Masood, who put on 49 to take the score to 52 for one after 10 overs.Masood, back from Pakistan duty, was playing confidently for 31, however he was run out by an Evison direct hit at the non-striker’s end from mid-on with the first ball of the 11th over.More rain came almost immediately at 53 for 2, leaving Yorkshire needing 10 an over upon the resumption. With the threat of more rain to come, Hill crashed the lion’s share of 21 off a Matthew Parkinson over, only to fall caught behind for 35 off Bazley to leave Yorkshire narrowly short.

Amad 2.0: Amorim can ease Dorgu blow by handing Man Utd star a new role

Manchester United face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium later on tonight, looking to build on the Europa League triumph over Real Sociedad on Thursday evening.

Ruben Amorim’s side are looking to make it four games unbeaten in the Premier League, after two draws and a win against Everton, Arsenal and Ipswich Town, respectively.

It will be the fourth time the two sides have met throughout 2024/25, with the Red Devils winning the other league clash this campaign with victories in the Carabao and FA Cup.

However, the manager may have some selection decisions to make if they are to extend their unbeaten run, helping end the season on a high after enduring a dismal campaign to date.

He will certainly be without one player for the trip to the East Midlands, with one first-team regular currently serving a suspension after picking up a red card a couple of weeks ago.

Patrick Dorgu’s suspension for Leicester City

Left-back Patrick Dorgu impressed massively during the win over Real Sociedad, looking like the player they decided to splash £30m on in the January transfer window.

However, the 20-year-old won’t be available for the clash with the Foxes this evening, serving the second of his three-game ban for his straight red card received in the win over Ipswich.

The Dane missed the clash with Arsenal last week, but his absence may be felt more tonight, given his impressive showing against the Spanish outfit a couple of days ago.

With Luke Shaw still out injured and Tyrell Malacia spending the remainder of the campaign out on loan, options are limited within the defensive department.

As a result, Amorim could look to start one player in an unfamiliar role, looking to follow in the footsteps of one player who previously impressed in his new position.

The player who could solve Amorim’s wing-back dilemma

Amad Diallo hasn’t featured since the last clash with the Foxes at the start of February, potentially missing the rest of the campaign with an ankle issue.

However, before his setback, Amorim often utilised the Ivorian in a slightly deeper wing-back role rather than his preferred attacking position, managing to get the best out of the youngster in the process.

The 22-year-old has managed to register 12 combined goals and assists since the former Sporting CP boss’s appointment, thriving with added minutes in the first team.

However, Amorim could look to replicate such success by unleashing Alejandro Garnacho in a similar position on the opposite flank, potentially allowing the Argentine to spark into life under the new manager.

The 20-year-old has only registered four combined goal contributions this calendar year, struggling to adapt to Amorim’s demands of operating in a more central role rather than his preferred wide position.

Whilst it may seem like a far-fetched idea, the young “game-changer” – as described by journalist Samuel Luckhurst – has all of the tools to operate in such a role, having the energy to get up and down the line, with his stats showing the impact he can have at both ends.

In the Premier League throughout 2024/25, Garnacho has averaged 1.1 successful dribbles and created 1.3 chances per 90 – showcasing the impact he can have when marauding into forward areas.

He’s also won 4.1 duels per 90, along with a 65% tackle success rate, having the defensive capabilities to regain possession should he need to when the side are without the ball.

Given the form of Amad in a similar position, it could be a great opportunity for the manager to start the academy graduate in a new role – offering added versatility to the side in the process.

Leicester’s lowly league standing could allow for one or two risks to be taken, with Amorim having the perfect chance to work his magic by utilising an attacker in a wing-back role, which could get the best out of his game after a stuttering few months.

'India need to quickly identify a back-up for Hardik Pandya' – Gautam Gambhir

Irfan Pathan believes the back-up can be in the form of spin-bowling allrounder, given the 2023 World Cup will be in home conditions

ESPNcricinfo staff03-Jan-2023

Gautam Gambhir, the former India batter, says the team needs to identify a back-up for seam-bowling allrounder Hardik Pandya as a priority as they build towards the 50-over World Cup at home this October-November.”They need to quickly identify a back-up for Hardik; if something happens to him, India will be in serious, serious trouble,” Gambhir said on “Road To World Cup Glory”, a show on Star Sports that will be aired in full after the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka.Watch Gambhir, Irfan and Srikkanth’s full take on Star Sports

Watch the full show on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 Hindi soon after the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka this evening.

Hardik only recently returned to full fitness after dealing with a back condition that he’s had to manage over the past few years. The upcoming ODIs against Sri Lanka, where he’ll be vice-captain, will be his first one-dayers since the tour of England in July 2022.Irfan Pathan, the former India allrounder, believes that the back-up for Hardik doesn’t necessarily need to be in the form of a seam-bowling allrounder because the tournament will be played in India. To illustrate his point, he cited Yuvraj Singh’s exploits at the 2011 World Cup, where he was Player of the Tournament with 362 runs and 15 wickets courtesy his left-arm spin.”In these conditions, you’re allowed to have two spinning allrounders,” Irfan said. “Guys like Washy [Washington Sundar], Axar [Patel], [Ravindra] Jadeja, and most importantly Deepak Hooda also [should be] in your scheme of things. Because he’s a batter; he just took four wickets in the New Zealand series. He [Hooda] needs to get a long run.”Who should make up India’s pace attack at the World Cup?
Irfan also said having an out-and-out quick in Umran Malik will give India’s pace attack the X-factor, especially on flat decks where the ball may not seam much. Gambhir, meanwhile, welcomed Jasprit Bumrah’s return, saying he will be the team’s biggest strength at the World Cup.Both Gambhir and Irfan were unanimous in their support for Prasidh Krishna, who has impressed in his limited opportunities with his hit-the-deck style that helps him generate steep bounce at excellent pace. Krishna hasn’t played any form of cricket since the tour of Zimbabwe in August, having picked up a back issue in September.”He’s a guy who can give you extra pace and bounce, he’s my guy,” Irfan said. “Avesh Khan can also be someone who can get bounce even on show pitches. You need guys who can give a little extra on such wickets.”Kris Srikkanth, chairman of the selection panel who picked the 2011 World Cup-winning team, had a different line-up in mind. “Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj will be my four pacers, along with Hardik Pandya’s medium pace. The matter ends.”‘Take a break from T20 cricket, not ODIs’ – Gambhir
Workload management amid an increasingly packed calendar has been a hot topic of late, with India rotating players and not often fielding a first-choice XI. If this is the case in 2023 as well, Gambhir said, the focus should be on having first-choice players play ODIs and rest during T20I series or the IPL.”This year [the core group should be focusing on] ODIs for sure. If they want to take a break, people who are playing all the three formats, they can definitely take a break from T20 cricket but surely not from ODI format. They have got to play together – I think the biggest mistake Indian cricket has made in the last probably two World Cups has been that they [the core players], these guys have not played enough cricket [in the lead up to the World Cups] together.”Tell me how many times have we got the best playing XI on the park? We haven’t. Only during the World Cup we decide to have the best playing XI… The break has to happen in the T20 format and not 50 overs.”And from the [IPL] franchisee point of view, [if] franchises have to suffer, they have to suffer. Indian cricket is the main stakeholder, not the IPL, the IPL is just the byproduct. So if India goes on to win the World Cup, that is the big ovation.”

Yamal took a shot at Real Madrid midfielder Bellingham and former Blancos captain Ramos after his starring role in Sunday's victory in El Clasico. Bellingham and Ramos had been snapped liking a recent Instagram post from Alessandro Bastoni celebrating Inter's progression in the Champions League, but Yamal made sure he had the last word on the saga, accompanying a post of his own with the caption: "Don't forget to like this one too."

While Barcelona's Champions League elimination might have been good news for players of a Madrid persuasion like Bellingham and Ramos, it only served to fire Hansi Flick's side up on Sunday. A thrilling fixture eventually ended 4-3 to the Catalan giants, who now hold a seven-point advantage at the top of the Liga table with just three games remaining.

Yamal did plenty of his talking on the pitch, too. The Spain international struck Cristiano Ronaldo's 'calma' gesture and then posed like Kylian Mbappe after his 32nd-minute strike.
