According to Marca, via Sport Witness, Real Madrid could offer Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur this summer in a bid to land Christian Eriksen.

Bale has won four Champions League titles during his time at the Bernabeu, but it is widely thought that the Welshman has never really settled in Spain.

Bale scored 55 times in 203 appearances for Spurs ahead of a move to Real Madrid and according to Marca, via Sports Witness, he could now head back to London.

A lot would have to happen for such a deal to take place, namely Eriksen making the move in the opposite direction, according to the report.

Eriksen will see his contract with Spurs expire at the end of next season and he has been strongly linked with a move away from the club.

Liverpool are threatening to chuck away their hopes of winning a first Premier League title, with a succession of dropped points ensuring the nerves will be kicking in at Anfield.

The Reds though do still hold the aces, and a win this weekend and in their game in hand on Man City would still see them top of the pile for the time being at least.

However, there are cracks appearing in the squad, and especially in the first XI, and we here in the Tavern feel the club might have missed a trick in January by not going out to add someone with real quality to the ranks.

We feel the summer then will be a big period for the Reds, and we feel they should be looking to make a move for Lyon and France midfielder, Tanguy Ndombele.

The young midfielder has been in fine form for Lyon this past 12 months, and has made himself a regular fixture in the national squad.

However, a move to England is always going to appeal to those playing in the French league, and with Liverpool looking light in the middle of the park, Ndombele might be the perfect tonic to rectify that such problem.

Powerful, quick, and full of energy, Ndombele would give the Reds a new dynamic in the middle of the park, and with the midfielder only being 22-years-old, Liverpool could well have their central midfield presence for the next decade.

On Sunday afternoon, Notts County officially announced that owner and chairman Alan Hardy has made the struggling League Two outfit available for purchase. 

Hardy cited a need to focus on his other business interests as the driving factor behind his decision to sell. As per the aforementioned report, Hardy stated that “my efforts to restore Notts County’s fortunes over the last two years mean my other businesses have had to take a back seat. They are now in need of my full attention.”

The Magpies are currently floundering at the foot of the table. Neal Ardley’s side are in desperate need of a boost, which many will hope can be provided by the arrival of a new owner.

Lacking in home-grown talents in their squad, Tottenham Hotspur must start targeting some English players in the summer.

Indeed, they need to fulfil their Premier League as well as Champions League home-grown quotas and are targeting Che Adams as their next coup from the championship in the summer, according to Daily Mirror via HITC.

Having spent nothing last summer, Daniel Levy will be under pressure to shell out cash to bulk up Spurs squad this time around. Adams could be a really clever signing, as Birmingham could sell him for relatively cheap and hand them a real talent. The Birmingham star’s been on a roll this season, having scored 19 goals in 32 appearances (stats via WhoScored).

Not only is he a potential goal-scorer, but a delight to watch, as the youngster loves to run with the ball and possesses commendable dribbling ability. Adams’ shooting ability from distance is promising, as his impressive link-up play means he can fit right into Mauricio Pochettino’s system.

Under the tutelage of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, Adams can slowly unleash his utmost potential at Spurs. His ability to play as a striker or even as an attacking midfielder means Pochettino can revolve him around in different positions.

The 22-year-old’s hunger for goals can help him thrive at Spurs, where the biggest requirement is to go forward and score goals. He can blend into their fast-paced, incisive system pretty well and considering how big a hit Dele Alli’s been, Adams can also blow up at Spurs.

Reliable West Ham United club insider @ExWHUemployee revealed via his official Twitter account on Tuesday that former Hammers striker Ricardo Vaz Te is back at the club training with the U23s, and Irons fans were quick to react to the update on Twitter.

It is as yet unclear whether the 32-year-old striker has left Chinese Super League club Henan Jianye having scored 16 goals in 26 appearances for them, as per Transfermarkt, while he was sent off for them in the final game of the 2018 season back in November.

Now @ExWHUemployee has revealed on Twitter that he is training with the U23s back in east London, having previously netted 19 times in 61 matches for West Ham during a spell between 2012 and 2015, according to Transfermarkt, before departing for Turkey.

His most famous goal for the club came in the 2012 Championship play-off final against Blackpool, which saw the Hammers win 1-0 to win promotion back to the Premier League.

West Ham supporters have taken to social media to give their thoughts on the news that Vaz Te is back, and while one said “we aren’t signing him again are we”, another said “that’s really underwhelming”.

Newcastle are set to be handed a big boost for the trip to Wolves next week, as Mo Diame, Paul Dummett and Ki Sung-yueng could all return.

What’s the word?

January could have been one of the worst months in Newcastle’s history had the club failed so miserably in the transfer market that Rafael Benitez walked, but all of a sudden everything is coming up Magpies.

After beating champions Manchester City, the Tyneside outfit wrapped up deadline deals for Miguel Almiron and Antonio Barreca, and Benitez is set for another boost going into next week’s clash.

The gaffer will take his troops to Molineux to take on a Wolves side that have won three league games on the bounce, but he could have three key players back for the trip.

Diame and Dummett, who have both been missing since the defeat to Manchester United with hip and hamstring problems respectively, along with Ki, who damaged his hamstring on international duty, are all “quite close” to full fitness, per The Chronicle.

What does it mean for the trip to Wolves?

Well, the return of Dummett must surely be a relief for Matt Ritchie, who now has two genuine left-backs vying for the place in Dummett and Barreca, meaning the Scottish international can move further up the pitch.

In midfield, the returns of Diame and Ki are hugely significant, as Benitez has been totally bereft of options in the middle of the park.

It’s hard to see the boss dropping Sean Longstaff after several sublime performances, so one of Diame or Ki could replace Isaac Hayden.

The Premier League experience of either one of the returning duo would be massively beneficial to Longstaff, and Diame’s all-action style seems tailor made to slot in alongside the composed and technically gifted youngster.

Davie Provan has claimed that Celtic would jump at the chance to sign Alfredo Morelos.

The Ibrox striker has been at the centre of all sorts of headlines after picking up his fourth red card of the season and having a three-match ban slapped down after an appeal against his sending off at Aberdeen was rejected.

Morelos is the top scorer in the SPFL Premiership but has never scored against Celtic and led a charmed life from officials despite a mountain of red and yellow cards.

The sale of Moussa Dembele and the absence of Leigh Griffiths has made life difficult for Rodgers, with Odsonne Edouard injury prone, as the Hoops boss searches for the goals to deliver an eighth successive title.

Discussing Morelos and his temper issues in The Scottish Sun, Provan claims…

“Like every other coach in this business, the Ibrox boss would have Jack the Ripper up front if he was good for 25 goals a season.

“Football managers can’t afford principles. Put it this way, you can bet Brendan Rodgers would take Morelos tomorrow given the chance.”

No chance

Rodgers would love a 25-goal striker – Celtic would probably have the title already wrapped up had Griffiths or Dembele been around. Morelos, however, is a different issue.

Above all else Rodgers is about the team,  he has his system and his ways – no player will be over indulged to the detriment of others. No Celtic player would survive three red cards with the Irishman in charge, certainly not four in six months.

Morelos would have been known to Celtic when he left HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017. There are sound reasons that they never made any move to sign the Colombian.

Leeds United have been hampered with injuries this season, yet they have managed to continue getting results to place themselves in a healthy position coming into the latter stages of the season.

There have been lengthy injuries to key figures, as well as knocks to more peripheral players, but there is a potential injury scare on the cards relating to Kemar Roofe.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have reported that Roofe is set to undergo scans on a knee injury, following a problem suffered in United’s 2-1 win over Swansea on Wednesday. Indeed, the BBC even confirmed the ex-Oxford ace had suffered knee ligament damage.

If the worst fears of United’s top scorer this season injury are realised, he could be on the sidelines for a varying time period, dependant on the outcome of the assessment.

In that case, here are the two United players that must step up if Roofe cannot feature…

Patrick Bamford

Bamford is the obvious option to replace Roofe in the number nine role. It has been just over two weeks since he returned from another lengthy knee injury himself and now is his time to step up.

The 25-year-old has scored three times this season in just four starts, so he has the ability to perform under Marcelo Bielsa, it is just a question as to whether he can do so regularly.

If Bamford can hugely impact the games during his opportunities, he stands himself in good stead of getting a regular place in the starting 11 for the remainder of the campaign.

Jack Harrison

Harrison has been largely used out wide this season but he has been trusted up front once in the latter stages of the draw to Millwall earlier in the season, showing good movement and decision making in his runs, which was rewarded with an 89th-minute equaliser.

Tyler Roberts is the more natural option, however, if Bielsa wants another option up top that may not be so natural to confuse the opposition and still have a positive impact, then Harrison is an alternative choice in that role.
