Liverpool fans urge Klopp to sell Lallana after another injury setback

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans are absolutely fuming at Adam Lallana, as the English international has been ruled out of the Reds’ trip to Watford.

Jurgen Klopp has almost his full squad to choose from at Vicarage Road on Saturday, but Lallana will definitely miss out.

The versatile midfielder “has a minor thing” according to the boss, as reported by James Pearce.

Jordan Henderson is fit to play however, meaning Klopp has plenty of options to choose from in midfield.

Lallana is enduring the wrath of fans though, as the Anfield faithful are growing increasingly frustrated with his tendency to pick up little niggling injuries throughout the season.

The 30 year-old has started just two Premier League games so far this campaign, and it’s getting to the point where he is injured more than he is fit.

Fans are calling for Klopp to axe him in the transfer market, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

HYS: Should Everton try to re-sign Romelu Lukaku?

[ad_pod ]

Romelu Lukaku was arguably Everton’s most important player at the club during his three-year spell at Goodison Park.

In his final season before moving to Manchester United in the summer of 2017, he struck 25 goals in the Premier League.

Lukaku’s decision to move on to pastures new hit the club hard as they struggled to find an adequate replacement.

At the moment manager Marco Silva does not have a reliable striker, and as a result, winger Richarlison has had to play in a more advanced role.

Suggesting that Everton should try to re-sign Lukaku would have been unthinkable last season, but in the current campaign, the forward has only scored four goals and has not struck the back of the net since mid-September.

Depending on United’s end-of-season transfer plans, there may be an opening for rival clubs to make a move for Lukaku, who has 31 goals in 67 appearances for the Red Devils.

The Playmaker FC squad decided to wind-up some unsuspecting Brazil fans at the Emirates on Saturday night. Watch the hilarious results in the video below…

If so, should Everton try to bring him back, or has that bridge already burned?

Aston Villa fans on Twitter praise Tammy Abraham after he scores again

[ad_pod ]

Tammy Abraham netted his seventh goal in just four games in Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, and fans of the club on Twitter were rightly expressing their love for him.

The 21-year-old joined on loan from Chelsea in the summer and he is starting to find his feet again in the Championship after a difficult campaign with Swansea in the Premier League last season.

In the last four games, the England U21 international netted once against Derby, local rivals Birmingham and Middlesbrough, as well as an incredible four goal haul in the 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Abraham now has 11 goals in 14 Championship games this season and Villa fans are clearly hoping that his goals will fire them to the Premier League after missing out at the final hurdle last season.

Leeds must sign Jack Clarke up to new deal before it’s too late

Leeds have been ravaged by injuries this season and Marcelo Bielsa has done well to keep the club in the title race despite losing multiple players to injury.

Most recently, Bielsa lost Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper to long-term injuries and with January coming up, he must dip into the transfer market.

Due to the injuries, Bielsa has had to rely on academy players to fill the void. Players such as Aapo Halme, Leif Davis and Jack Clarke have all been called into the side to help soften the blow.

Clarke is regarded as one of the best products to come out of the academy in recent years and has played five games in the Championship this season for the side.

The 18-year-old already looks as though he’ll be a valuable first-team player for Bielsa but according to Football Insider, the club are stalling on giving him a new deal. According to the report, Manchester City are interested in the winger.

The Breakdown

Recently, Clarke has come off the bench in the last two games and played a key role in Pablo Hernandez’s late winner last weekend against Sheffield United.

The youngster’s current deal runs out in 2021 but after making such an impression at the club in his handful of appearances, Leeds would be wise to offer him an improved deal.

Moreover, Leeds don’t have much depth going forward and having Clarke in the squad, gives Bielsa a player who can not only play on either wing but if needs be, play up front.

Manchester United fans on Twitter want Mason Greenwood to replace Lukaku

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans on Twitter have been calling for young striker Mason Greenwood to be promoted to the first-team after he netted a hat-trick in the 4-3 FA Youth Cup win over Chelsea.

The Blues have been completely dominant in the competition in recent years, winning the last five tournaments, but Greenwood put an end to that with an impressive performance at Leigh Sports Village on Monday.

With Jose Mourinho sacked by the Red Devils, many fans will expect more opportunities for young players who impress in the academy, and it’s clear that England U18 forward Greenwood is a popular option.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Many United fans even claimed that the 17-year-old is currently a better player than fellow academy product Marcus Rashford and £75m signing Romelu Lukaku, after the pair were involved in the embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on the weekend.

Check out some of the best reaction below as the Old Trafford faithful rave about their young star and compare him to their current first-team options.

Tactical Analysis: Why Dele Alli will be key to Tottenham victory over Everton

[ad_pod ]

Each week, our friends over at Total Football Analysis Magazine tactically preview our Fixture in Focus. Today, Lead Analyst Lee Scott looks at how Tottenham are in a title race and how they could set-up against Everton.

As we rapidly approach Christmas there are still signs of a title race in the English Premier League. Heading into the weekend, Liverpool sat at the top of the table with a one-point cushion on Manchester City. Just behind those two sit Spurs. The North London side are six points behind Liverpool but there is still a sense that they are still in touch with the top two.

If we look at it objectively then the performances under Mauricio Pochettino so far this season have been nothing short of sensational. They are still in touch at the top of the table at Christmas, through to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup and the last sixteen in the Champions League. All of this comes on the back of a preseason that saw the club choose to not sign a single player. Indeed, given the lack of investment in the first team squad, there was significant unrest amongst Spurs fans who saw this as a lack of ambition.

Throughout all of this uncertainty, Pochettino remained adamant that he was happy with the quality and the depth of the squad at his disposal. There was a definite sense that had the right player been available then the funds would have been released. Instead, Pochettino has been happy to turn to his younger players with the likes of Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Kyle Walker-Peters getting minutes at first-team level.

To go along with the integration of younger players in the first team squad we have also seen Erik Lamela return from a significant injury lay off and French midfielder Moussa Sissoko rediscover his form. These players add depth and quality. If Spurs are to continue their positive form then they will rely on two of their more high profile players, Dele Alli and Harry Kane. They will be key factors in the upcoming match against Everton in the Premier League.

Spurs current structure

Mauricio Pochettino is one of the most tactically flexible coaches in the Premier League. We have seen him alter the structure of this defensive lines from three across the back to four and even to a four that became a three in the attacking phase when the full-backs advance forward and the deep midfielder drops to the defensive line.

In recent weeks, however, we have seen Spurs adopt a more structured system that resembles a 4-3-1-2, with the deepest midfielder changing depending on the needs of the game; Eric Dier can play there as a more destructive option whilst Harry Winks offers a playmaking style.

In the attacking phase, the look of the side alters again with the tip and base of the midfield diamond joining and supporting different lines.

In the central areas, there are three key blocks to the attacking unit that are joined together by the controlling player at the base of the diamond and Alli at the tip. The other two midfielders tend to be players who complement one another with different skill sets, Christian Eriksen and Sissoko for example, who add different dimensions to the attack.

In the wide areas, the full-backs are expected to provide width and support the attacking movement. Typically we do not see full-backs on each side advance to the same line, with player nearest the ball moving high whilst the opposite full-back provides balance by staying deeper.

Against Everton, space in the central areas may well be difficult to access given the tackling ability of Idrissa Gueye. Instead, I would expect to see combinations played between the highest full-back and the likes of Eriksen in midfield and Son-Heung Min in the attack.

These players will combine in slightly deeper areas while Kane provides more of an attacking focal point on the highest line and Alli support this with timed runs from deeper areas.

The Dele Alli factor

In truth it should come as no surprise that Alli had something of a slow start to the season, he carried an injury into the World Cup in the summer and then tried to come back to club football without enough of a rest.

In recent weeks, however, we have seen the young English international go from strength to strength with his goal in the recent North London derby, a glorious dink over the goalkeeper, further showcasing his threat in the attacking phase.

The threat that Alli poses comes from his ability to identify and attack pockets of space in and around the penalty area from a deeper starting position. This coming weekend, Everton will struggle to cope with these delayed runs given the lack of flexibility they have in their defensive line.

With the ball in wide areas, the Spurs strikers make very pronounced movements initially. The ball-near forward will move closer to the front of the penalty area looking to combine or be in a position to run onto a through ball. The ball-far forward will drop to the far side looking to find space in the defender’s blind side. These movements create space centrally that can be occupied by Alli moving from deep.

As Alli is equally capable of finishing in the penalty area with his head or feet, he poses a huge threat to Everton when moving into these areas.

Equally important to Spurs’ attacking gameplan is the ability of Alli to move into occupied space in order to support the focal striker and overload the central areas. We tend to see this when Kane takes up central areas and Alli moves closer to connect with the front-man and the secondary striker.

When the ball is then played into advanced areas, whether to the feet or the head of Kane then we see Alli move forward to support the pass. From a deeper line, Eriksen will move into the space vacated by Alli and further overload through the middle.

In the game against Everton, I expect to see these movement patterns repeated as Spurs look to break through the Everton defence in central areas.

Conclusion

Traditionally Goodison Park is a difficult place to go to when you need a win. The fans are passionate and Everton are a difficult team to play against. With that said though the smart money is still on Spurs to come away from this match with three points.

They have the momentum and the desire to keep in touch with Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of them in the title race. More crucially though they have a coach in Pochettino who has the tactical acumen to guide his side to victory.

Celtic set to sign Weah on loan, fans react

Loads of Celtic fans have been giving their verdict on a potentially huge transfer update, as reports claim the Bhoys have won the race to sign Timothy Weah on loan.

According to RMC, PSG wonderkid Weah will sign for Celtic in January.

The report from France claims several Premier League and European clubs were in the hunt, but the 18 year-old will spend the second half of the season in Glasgow.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...

Weah, who is the son of legendary striker George Weah, has featured just twice in Ligue 1 this season.

This is no mark on the youngster’s ability though, given the sheer volume of world class talent available to PSG boss Thomas Tuchel.

He has scored twice in six appearances in all competitions, and has four goals in the UEFA Youth League.

The teenager can play anywhere across the attack, has electric pace, and already has eight USA caps to his name.

Fans are losing it over the possibility of securing one of the brightest attacking prospects in Europe, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

It’s never been more obvious, Chelsea simply have to ditch Alvaro Morata

Chelsea have made some great signings over the years. Antonio Rudiger, Jorginho and Ross Barkley are just some of the players that have impressed in recent years after moving to Stamford Bridge, but there have also been a number of disappointing signings.

Specifically, the purchase of Alvaro Morata is quickly looking to be worse than that of Fernando Torres. The parallels are obvious: a top forward signed to lead the line and brought in for incredible money – only to lose confidence and become a shell of the player they once were.

In the case of Morata, though, the signs are even worse. The Spaniard doesn’t just lack confidence, at times it looks like he’s a lost puppy in the Chelsea team, and it’s now gotten to a point in which it’s unclear as to whether it’s recoverable. For every positive step he makes, he proceeds to make more than a few backwards steps thereafter.

It says a lot that he now finds himself third in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, beyond Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud, and on current form, there’s no chance of him regaining any sort of prominence.

Significantly, then, it’s interesting that Sevilla are said to be interested in taking on the Spaniard, according to the Sun, meaning that Chelsea, and Morata, could have an escape from the hellish spell that the number 29 is currently going through. It’s a decision that Chelsea, at this point, simply have to make if they get the chance, because Morata is looking like a lost cause – and without a top forward leading the line, a title charge is incredibly unlikely.

Rangers must be laughing at shockingly low bid for Tavernier

According to a Rock Sport Radio journalist, Rangers should expect a bid of £7m for captain James Tavernier from an unnamed English club.

The right-back has been ever-present for Steven Gerrard’s team so far this season, not yet missing a game in the Scottish Premiership. He is arguably Rangers’ best player, or perhaps their most consistent, which makes this bid bewilderingly low.

Tavernier is only 27, which means that he still has a lot to give in his football career, and still with over two years left on his contract, it is not as if this price has been offered to give Rangers some money for the player instead of leaving for free at the end of the season.

As mention, Tavernier is one of the club’s best players, shown by the fact that he is captain and manager Gerrard has relied on him in every league game so far this season. With six goals and eight assists to his name in the Scottish Premiership, these are hugely impressive stats for a right-back.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”367485″ player=”13308″ title=”Rangers”]

Additionally, the fact that Rangers are in the best position to win the Scottish Premiership in years is perhaps the main reason why Rangers would never accept this offer. The Gers will want to be at full strength for the rest of the season to keep the pressure on bitter rivals Celtic, and that would be impossible without Tavernier.

This is a shockingly low price, and there is almost no doubt that senior members of Rangers’ set-up will just laugh this off.

Potential consequences: Leeds signing Fraser Forster

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United are being linked with a myriad of goalkeepers of late, with Real Madrid’s Kiko Casilla said to be joining, Arsenal’s Emiliano Martinez tipped for a loan deal and Southampton’s Fraser Forster now emerging as a contender, according to the Daily Star.

It’s being said that a deal for the Saints shot-stopper is hoped to go through by the end of the week, as Marcelo Bielsa wants to bring in competition for Bailey Peacock-Farrell and sees the out-of-favour Premier League star as the answer.

Forster has not featured at St Mary’s Stadium since Boxing Day 2017 when he conceded five to Tottenham Hotspur, but before that built a reputation for being a brick wall between the posts and earned six England international appearances as a result.

In fact, the 30-year-old has kept 45 clean sheets in 124 games for Southampton, building on 101 in 197 at Celtic, but shutouts is not all that he would bring to Elland Road. Let Football FanCast assess the potential consequences for you…

Pl>ymaker FC’s Thogden was at the crucial relegation 6-pointer between Bolton and Rotherham. Check out the video below…

Kiko Casilla chase over

If Fraser is the man tasked with coming in and offering Peacock-Farrell competition in goal, after Bielsa publically stated he was continuing with the 22-year-old due to a lack of alternatives, it would be extremely unlikely Real Madrid’s third choice goalie Casilla is also signed during the same window.

Both would be as match-fit as each other as neither have featured so far this season, and both would demand sizeable wages – despite a lack of minutes, Fraser is Southampton’s joint-third highest earner at £70,000 a week.

Promotion secured

Despite losing Bielsa’s faith part-way through the season, Peacock-Farrell has still clawed his way to ten clean sheets in 26 games, the second most in the Championship.

Luring Fraser to Elland Road, and the 30-year-old retaining his previous impressive form, will then surely secure promotion back into the top flight as the likely second tier champions, with the Whites already holding a four-point lead over second-placed Sheffield United.

Sacrificing Peacock-Farrell’s development

While signing an experienced ‘keeper may secure promotion, it will have implications on Peacock-Farrell’s development.

As the first-choice goalie for much of the season, the 22-year-old has been able to iron out the mistakes that crept into his game and achieve his ten clean sheets, but as the backup he will be forced to watch on as someone else takes the praise.

The 6 foot 7 Southampton man will be able to pass on his pearls of wisdom on the training ground, but the understudy role will be a tough pill to swallow and stunt the progress being made.
