Leeds United fans on Twitter are expecting Pontus Jansson to leave the club this summer after his recent comments to the Swedish press.
The 28-year-old is currently training with Swedish club Malmo, and when he was asked why he was training anywhere other than his current club he responded: “I have nothing to say.”
The defender has recently been linked with a move to Leeds’ Championship rivals Fulham, and some supporters believe he is on his way out.
He has been a key man for the Whites since joining back in 2016, having appeared in 125 league games over the past three seasons.
Despite the fact he was a regular for Marcelo Bielsa’s first season in charge it seems that he may not be back for the Argentine’s second term at the Yorkshire club.
It remains to be seen whether or not Jansson will leave this summer, but if he does, it won’t come as a surprise to many United fans.

Morris claims 5 for 48 as Lancashire win by 101 runs
ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay14-May-2025Lancashire recorded a third successive win by hammering Warwickshire by 101 runs in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup women’s competition at Edgbaston. The visitors’ total of 276 for 8 was built by a strong start and finish. Emma Lamb, with 88 from 84 balls, and Katie Mack with 57 off 86, set the platform and, after a wobble induced by spinner Georgia Davis’s 3 for 45, Sophie Ecclestone’s half-century led a second wave which took the total from solid to imposing.Warwickshire then succumbed for 175 all out as Fi Morris took out numbers two, three and four in 12 balls on her way to 5 for 48 to sentence the home side to a third successive defeat.Related

After choosing to bat, Lancashire took an early hit when Eve Jones fell to the eighth ball, lbw to an inswinger yorker from George.Lamb and Mack responded assertively with a stand of 116 in 23 overs. They reached their half-centuries from 50 and 80 balls respectively before the innings faltered in the face of spin.Warwickshire captain Davis struck in her first over when Mack, deceived by flight, was stumped by wicketkeeper Abi Freeborn. Seren Smale was brilliantly caught at slip by George off Hannah Baker. Davis held a stinging return catch from Morris and drew a fatal outside edge from Ailsa Lister. When Lamb edged a pull at Issy Wong to Freeborn, five wickets had fallen for 49 runs in ten overs and, at 168 for 6, Lancashire needed shoring up.Experienced pair Ecclestone and Eleanor Threlkeld provided the necessary ballast and then impetus with a stand of 91 from 82 balls and, after Ecclestone heaved Em Arlott to long on, Katie Cross socked Wong into the Hollies Stand to carry on the revival. With Freeborn, injured while wicketkeeping, unable to open, Warwickshire sent in Charis Pavely with Sterre Kalis but the makeshift opener was first to go when she played on to Cross.Morris then torpedoed the top order with three wickets in 12 balls. Kalis and Davina Perrin sent up catches to mid off and mid on respectively and Natasha Wraith was stumped through a reckless slog.Bethan Ellis got a reverse sweep at Ecclestone all wrong and gave wicketkeeper Threlkeld the simplest of catches. Arlott embarked on a crazy second run and was only just past halfway when former team mate Grace Potts’ throw arrived.Morris returned to bowl George with a lovely ball and complete her five-for when Freeborn holed out to deep mid-wicket. It was an all-round performance from Lancashire which oozed conviction and emphatically staked their claim as contenders for the inaugural County Championship title this season.

Manchester United’s first signing of the summer transfer window, Daniel James, arrived from Swansea as a young winger with a high ceiling and has already appeared to hit the ground running.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that the Welshman’s attitude and work ethic in training were something to behold, and after an impressive debut against Perth Glory in the first game of pre-season, James is already looking like a potential game-changing signing.
On the chalkboard
As United alternate between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3, James’ positioning in the set-up is of great intrigue, and according to Solskjaer himself, the 21-year-old’s versatility could prove key.
Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…
The Norwegian said: “Dan can play all across the frontline. Obviously more right and left wing, but through the middle as well. Then again, it’s about finding a relationship that works, sometimes you want the full back to join the attack and maybe you don’t want a winger hugging the touchline.
“We’ll just have to find the balance between width and players in between, so I’m sure you’ll see him both right and left throughout the season.”
At Swansea, James was predominantly used off the left flank and appeared to do his best work in that position as well. As per Whoscored, in 12 appearances from an attacking left midfield role, James registered three goals and five assists. The position gives the Wales international the opportunity to cut inside and strike at goal, as evidenced by his 2.6 shots per game.
But at United, the likes of Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez and even Marcus Rashford will provide stiff competition from the left-hand side. On the opposite touch-line is where James could consolidate his position. In some of the Red Devils’ best performances under Solskjaer, United were at their best on the break.

Having James on the right and Martial on the left would give the Manchester side blistering pace on the counter-attack, and cause the opposition all kinds of problems. The club’s other options last season from the right included the likes of Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata; both with their individual qualities, but not out-and-out wingers, creating a problem on that right flank for both Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer.
So whilst James may have arrived as a more natural left winger, Solskjaer’s comments on his versatility indicate he could be the man to finally solve the club’s problem position on the right-hand side.
South Africa’s recent history in Australia is excellent, and there is a quiet confidence among the youthful squad that they can continue the trend.

Bavuma unafraid of Australia’s quicks
Cricket-loving South Africans of a certain age hark back to matches against Australia with some hesitation. They remember series in the 1990s when Australia owned world cricket. Not Temba Bavuma. His most vivid recollection is one in which his country was successful.”I remember 2008 and watching JP Duminy and the hundred he scored,” Bavuma said. “I remember how he made a name for himself on that tour. That memory sticks out.”Bavuma is part of the generation who have never known losing in Australia, mostly because they have never been here before. Nine of the 16 squad members have not played a Test series in Australia and the other seven have only won. Theirs is a history of heroes and a future filled with hope that the trend can continue.”It’s a special feeling to be part of a group like this,” Bavuma said. “There is quiet confidence about the way we’re going about things.”Although South Africa are not the South Africa of the previous two tours, who arrived in Australia fresh off series wins in England, they are a rejuvenated South Africa. They have stopped talking about being in a transition phase and started considering themselves a continuous work in progress, a team that assimilates experience and youth and that can rely on both for big performances. That much showed in the recent ODI series against Australia. Albeit in a different and perhaps less pressured series format Rilee Rossouw and Andile Phehlukwayo stepped up in the absence of AB de Villiers and despite the presence of Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada. Rossouw was rewarded with a place in the Test squad and if he is included in the XI, there’s a confidence he will be able to step up.”Everybody knows that on any given day, somebody can win the game for the team or put the team in a good position,” Hashim Amla explained. “As a team, it’s nice knowing that everybody can contribute and make the play.”Amla has played down the importance of looking to the past for inspiration, instead choosing to focus on how the newer players in particular will approach the pressures of the present. “We’ve passed on our knowledge and told the guys what they could possibly encounter in terms of the wicket, the field, the crowds, the intensity of playing Test cricket in Australia and they are loving it,” Amla said. “They are very keen. The youngsters are really excited to get the Test series going.”Temba Bavuma: “If they do start using the short ball, I know have a slight advantage over them because they can’t bowl me out that way”•Getty ImagesFor Bavuma, that means “embracing” the expectation that comes with winning the last two series in Australia and taking the fight to the opposition, something stand-in captain Faf du Plessis has endorsed. “I would like to commend Faf on his leadership,” Bavuma said. “He’s been exemplary. He’s led from the front. We’ve spoken about playing a positive, aggressive brand of cricket and he’s shown the way. Other guys have followed in his footsteps. It is a collective effort but it’s mostly guys stepping up when needed.”But the big talk may earn South Africa some bruises when they meet an Australian attack just as eager to make an impression as their own. In Bavuma’s case, the expectation is that he will face a barrage of bouncers because of his (lack of) height. Bavuma’s stature was the subject of much scrutiny when he was introduced to the Australian press on Monday but he told them he is not afraid of being targeted.”If they do start using the short ball, I know have a slight advantage over them because they can’t bowl me out that way,” he said. “Majority of my play is on the back foot so back-foot play does become an area of expertise, as opposed to playing on the front foot.”In fact, Bavuma himself is not expecting too many deliveries aimed at his head. “I don’t actually get a lot of short balls. When we played England last year, they never really targeted me with the short ball when I thought they would. But whatever comes my way, I will be ready for it.”Australia also don’t seem too intent on putting Bavuma at the top of their priority list and are concentrating on the more experienced members of the South African line-up. “In most series, you target the captain, you put a lot of pressure on him and then it does put pressure on other guys,” Australia fast bowler Peter Siddle said. “We will be trying to put the pressure on Faf and Amla, the two senior guys in that top order. You try put pressure on them and then they have to rely on the inexperienced guys a bit more, that puts pressure on the whole side.”And they may be interested to hear that Amla is not fussed about being on their hit-list. “Before every series, there’s always the same questions. We got asked about David Warner and Steve Smith,” Amla said. “There’s always going to be two guys you are going to be asked about in the opposition and you are going to say, yeah yeah we’ve got to get these guys out.”Both teams have got really good batters. We’ve got to get 20 wickets to win the Test match, they’ve got to get 20 wickets to win the Test match so I don’t look to much into it. I know in our batting order we’ve got guys who can make an impact at any stage of the game. That’s a really wonderful thing to have in the team.”South Africa’s real wonder is that they believe they have that, even among their rookies, who they are trusting with building on their legacy in Australia.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Houghton is fighting for parity for women in English football after revealing she was paid an annual salary of just £4,000 at Arsenal. That figure could rise to £9,000 from bonuses and extra work as a part-time coach, representing the vast disparity between women's and men's wages at the highest level of English football.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The retired centre-back enjoyed a fine career that saw her earn 121 caps for England and win three WSL titles – two with Arsenal and one with Manchester City. But it was only when she spoke to people with more experience that she began to question her earnings compared to male players, before she embarked on a quest for parity.
WHAT HOUGHTON SAID
"Arsenal was the best club in England and that was their level," Houghton told The Guardian. "Money was never really a driver for me. It was just about playing for Arsenal and winning trophies, but when you meet people that have got a lot more experience about what you should be earning, that’s when you think: 'Right, things have to change.'
"When I looked at what [England’s men] were getting for commercial deals that really opened my eyes. The men and women play for the national teams of the same country and yet they’re getting 15 times more than us. How is that fair? I got the bit between my teeth and I was like: 'OK, we need to do something about that.'
"That’s what I’m probably most proud of in terms of the stuff that we did off the pitch – to change how companies thought of us as athletes and to stop them taking the p***."

There must have been a palpable sense of relief from Sunderland supporters when Regis Le Bris' appointment was confirmed late last week, finally bringing to an end the Black Cats' drawn-out search for a new manager.
The ex-Lorient head coach put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the club on Friday, eager now to get down to work and restore pride into the Wearside outfit again after a poor season saw Sunderland finish in a lowly 16th spot.
Regis Le Bris for Lorient.
The new French boss will no doubt want a number of incomings to stamp his authority but there could also be some outgoings too, which may well include one of his former players at Lorient being moved on.
Aouchiche's time at Lorient
Sunderland fans might have been excited by the prospect of Adil Aouchiche and what he could do this coming season after shining in spurts last campaign, despite such a poor overall year for the team.
The daring 21-year-old would help himself to a promising five goal contributions from 30 games in all competitions, but could find his fledging Sunderland career cut short with Le Bris rarely using him when the two were at Lorient together.
Former Lorient midfielder Adil Aouchiche.
Aouchiche would only end up making 13 appearances for his ex-employers with Les Bris at the helm, with just one league start handed out to the 5 foot 11 attacking midfielder during the 2022/23 campaign by the new Black Cats manager, before leaving for England under his tenure.
The Sunderland number 22 would also be demoted to the Lorient B team on one occasion by the 48-year-old, with Aouchiche fearing now that he could be chucked to one side by Le Bris again, especially with the likes of Jobe Bellingham looking to nail down that number ten role as his own soon.
Now, he could be heading towards a premature Stadium of Light exit, if Le Bris decides the 21-year-old isn't to his liking again.
Aouchiche's transfer value at Sunderland
This doesn't have to be a crushing development, with Aouchiche's estimated transfer valuation – according to Football Transfers – making him a more valuable asset than first-team regular Dan Neil currently.
Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.
Although the attacking midfielder only started ten of the 28 Championship games he amassed last campaign, Aouchiche's valuation still stands at a hefty £4.8m, which means the Black Cats could cash in and not feel too disheartened.
For a player who was once purchased on a free transfer by Lorient, Sunderland would be in for some pretty profit, you imagine, if they did sell him on.
Neil, who featured in all but four of his side's 46 league games in contrast, finds his valuation surprisingly at a lesser £4.5m, meaning Sunderland might strike whilst the iron is hot and offload Aouchiche soon, before his value takes a hit.

Aouchiche isn't even that far off entering the top five table above when looking at the highest-valued players currently on Wearside, with the former Paris St. Germain youngster's pedigree in the game clearly outweighing his mediocre debut season in England.
It will be intriguing to see if the new manager does give Aouchiche a fair shot after discarding him at Lorient, with Neil, on the contrary, presumably a guaranteed first-teamer if the 22-year-old commits his future at the Stadium of Light, after rumours circulated he was unsettled with no boss occupying the dug-out.
Le Bris will just hope he can be the fresh injection of life the Black Cats need in the manager's hot seat next season, as Sunderland eye up a much higher finish than their car-crash 2023/24 offering.
Sunderland could sign "terrific" Bellingham replacement
Sunderland will be drafting up a list of replacements in case Jobe Bellingham does walk away soon.

Tranmere, who sit in the bottom-half of League Two, are eager to tread a similar path. Current owner Palios has opened himself up to outside investment, with there talk of a consortium – headed by celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina but also featuring Rihanna’s rap star partner A$AP Rocky – lining up a £15 million ($20m) approach.
WHAT TRANMERE OWNER SAID
Palios cannot give much away at this point, but has told : “It’s been no secret over the last two years in our accounts, we’ve said that we’ve been trying to attract investment into the club – although we are not formally for sale. That has been part of the strategy we have adopted in regards to moving the club on to the next stage. While I’m not confirming that A$AP Rocky is part of a consortium one way or another, there are a number of people out there. We are under an NDA, non-disclosure arrangement, so I can’t talk about individual parties but it is part of the plan that we would get people in to do that.”

Palios added on raising Tranmere’s profile, as Rovers follow the lead of Football League rivals: “As soon as you bring celebrities into the club, then a lot of things can happen. We have seen that with Wrexham. I think what’s important is that there is a major opportunity in the US market at this point in time – partly because of what happened with Wrexham – but if you start to look at that as a market place for English clubs, there is about 85 million people – that is more than in the UK – that watch English football. I know that is heavily biased towards the Premier League, but of course Wrexham have made people interested in lower league clubs.”
Quizzed on when he would like to see a deal completed, Palios said with a smile: “ASAP!”
Manchester United will be hoping for a season better than their previous one in 2024/25. They finally know who their manager will be; Erik ten Hag will keep his job at the helm of the club, following the club’s post-season review. It was confirmed recently by reputable journalist David Ornstein that the Dutchman will lead his side into the next campaign.
Indeed, the Red Devils will need to improve on their lacklustre Premier League efforts. They finished eighth in the league, with 60 points and a -1 goal difference, eight points behind Aston Villa in fourth. However, they massively overachieved. As per Understat’s expected points metric, they should have finished 14th, with just 44xPTS to their name.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag
An FA Cup final victory secured United both a trophy and a spot in Europe next season. Goals from academy graduate duo Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo sealed the win over Manchester City, giving Ten Hag his second trophy in as many years and a place in the Europa League next season.
United will need to dip into the transfer market over the summer in order to strengthen their squad for next season. Already, they have been linked with one player who can add both depth and quality to their squad.
Man Utd target La Liga attacker
The player in question here is Barcelona and Brazil striker Vitor Roque. The 19-year-old joined Barca in a big-money move from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense in January but has struggled to find his feet and could depart the club this summer.
At least, that is according to reports in Spain, via Football365. It's explained that the Red Devils have already placed a bid for Roque, but have “had their first offer” rejected by the Spanish giants.
This transfer rumour comes after his agent, André Cury, called former manager Xavi out in May for Roque’s lack of game time. Cury said that the young Brazilian will only leave permanently and that nobody “understands why Xavi doesn’t play him” stating that they will speak to the club in due time.
This has opened the door to a potential move to Old Trafford for Roque. However, a potential transfer fee has not been named should United look to sign the Brazilian. However, as per Football Observatory, Roque is valued at £51m. Barca paid £25.6m up front for Roque, with a suggested £26.4m in add-ons potentially being paid.
How Roque would fit in at Man Utd
To say Roque was underused last season by Xavi would be something of an understatement. He made 14 La Liga appearances, scoring twice. However, the 331 minutes he played equates to just three full 90-minute games.
Athletico Paranaense's Vitor Roque
However, he is still a quality striker despite being just 19 years of age. In Roque’s final season in the Brazilian Serie A, he scored 12 goals and registered three assists in 25 games, with football talent scout Jacek Kulig explaining that his “quality is indisputable”, whilst also praising his mentality.
The teenager is an excellent ball carrier, something that is reflected in his Fbref stats. The youngster averages an attempted 3.50 take-ons per 90 minutes, and completes 1.17 of those take-ons. This places him in the top 7% and 16% respectively of strikers. Not only that, he averages 1.37 carries into the final third, ranking him in the top 12%, and 1.17 carries into the penalty box, placing him in the top 11%.

This carrying from deeper areas could suit United down to a tee. Roque would offer a completely different profile than Rasmus Hojlund, who impressed in his debut season at Old Trafford. The Dane scored 16 goals in 43 appearances during the 2023/24 campaign.
Last season, Hojlund was used as a back-to-goal type of striker, for United, whereas he is perhaps better utilised in another way. As Sky Sports analyst Adam Bate pointed out, Hojlund “would prefer to be running channels, finding space with his movement” than holding the ball up and carrying from deep.
However, Roque, a slick dribbler, may be better at dropping deeper to link up play. He is just 5 foot 7 and uses his slight frame to help slalom around defenders. Dropping deeper would allow him to dribble from deeper areas and carry the ball forward, or link up play with opponents offering a completely different profile to the Dane, who prefers to get down the sides of the pitch.
Described as “truly magnificent” by the aforementioned Kulig, although we haven’t seen the best of him at Barca, he is no doubt a talented player. Just look at his form during his final season in Brazil. If this is a deal the Red Devils get over the line, they would add a new profile to their squad and bring in another exciting and talented centre-forward.
