The veteran fast bowler Chris Martin believes discipline will be the key for New Zealand’s attack if they are to turn their tour around with victory in the first Test against West Indies in Antigua. But I think as the game goes on, the variable nature of the pitch is probably going to create a little bit of havoc, so it’s probably a good toss to win.”I think the opportunity here for us on a pitch that’s definitely going to have a result in it is massive. It’s just a matter of us getting our games together and playing as a team and attacking pretty hard on that first day.”Remarkably for a man who is 37 and has been on the international cricket scene for 12 years, this will be Martin’s first full international of any format in the Caribbean. It’s rock hard early, and you get whatever variation you need out of the wicket, and then it becomes a little bit of a holding pattern for a while, until you can get the ball reversing,” he said. “I think it softens up relatively quickly and I think the spinners find it a difficult ball if you haven’t used it before to get your hands around because there’s quite a big seam on it.”New Zealand need to find a way to turn their form around not only after the warm-up game but also following a 4-1 loss in the one-day series and a 2-0 defeat in the Twenty20s. Martin said on paper it appeared New Zealand should be able to match West Indies, and the key was to deny them a strong start on the first morning.”I think they’re quite a confident outfit at the moment,” he said. “How we start in that first hour against them is probably going to define the series in a lot of ways. As far as the line-ups go they’re pretty similar and I think if you look at the numbers across the board it’s going to be a very competitive Test series. It’s going to be for us a lot more about our attitude and playing together as a team to combat these guys in their home conditions.”West Indies are searching for their first series win against anyone other than Bangladesh in their past 10 series, and they will fancy their chances after the limited-overs portion of the tour. Chanderpaul, the veteran batsman, said it was important for a developing West Indies side that they earned some results for their encouraging play in recent times.”It’s very important for us,” Chanderpaul said. “We’ve been playing for a while now. We’ve had a couple of wins and it would be really good to go out and win this series. We’ve done well in the one-day series, in the T20 games. We’ve done well in those couple of formats and it would be nice to crown it off in the Test series.”

First he contributed 22 to a barnstorming ninth wicket partnership of 54, then he took two wickets in as many balls to leave Glamorgan trailing by 45 runs with eight wickets in hand.Patterson came into this match with 34 championship wickets for the season, and added four to that tally in Glamorgan’s innings on the first day.When he began his opening spell of six overs in the evening Yorkshire were looking to capitalise on an advantage that he and Ryan Sidebottom had given them with the bat. He struck in his fifth over when Nick James fenced at a ball outside off stump and was taken by wicketkeeper Andy Hodd. Glamorgan sought to protect Stewart Walters by sending in a nightwatchman, but it used up one ball which John Glover edged to second slip where Adam Lyth held a sharp chance.All eyes this morning were on Joe Root, one of several bright young things of Yorkshire cricket. In the space of 14 overs they put on 54 runs, Sidebottom in particular playing some fine drives on both sides of the wicket and scoring six boundaries in his 35. Allenby finally broke the stand, knocking back Patterson’s stumps to finish with 4-61, and when Graham Wagg had Sidebottom caught behind Yorkshire had the lead of 72 that Patterson began to exploit with the ball.Promotion hopes or not, it would be an unusual end to a Yorkshire season that did not see a dispute or two. This year’s surrounds the long-serving public address announcer Tony Loffill, who was informed at Scarborough on Friday that he would be making way for somebody with a more upbeat style of delivery.

Na última terça-feira a Arena da Baixada foi palco de um jantar beneficente que promoveu a campanha “Furacão Solidário”, iniciativa do Atlético-PR que atende crianças e adolescentes em vulnerabilidade social. O evento contou com cerca de 90 pessoas e arrecadou doações que serão usadas na compra de meiões e chuteiras para alunos de 11 cidades do interior do Paraná.

O jantar foi realizado no Setor VIP do estádio atleticano e contou com a presença de sócios, conselheiros e diretores do Atlético-PR. Além deles, o ex-jogador Nem, ídolo do CAP e embaixador da Escola Furacão, e o garoto haitiano Maxon Joseph, de nove anos, foram os convidados especiais da noite.

“Furacão Solidário” é um projeto do Atlético-PR e da organização social Samaritan’s Feet. Em 2018, a meta é arrecadar chuteiras e meiões para mil crianças e adolescentes, entre 7 e 14 anos, inscritas em projetos sociais da Escola Furacão localizadas em municípios parceiros do clube.

Juntos, Atlético-PR e Samatitan’s Feet realizam diversas ações em jogos e em eventos para aumentar a arrecadação da campanha. As pessoas que contribuem para o projeto podem ganhar visitas ao CAT Alfredo Gottardi, camisas autografadas e até ingressos VIP para jogos do time.

برشلونة عزز صدارته للدوري الإسباني، في المباراة التي شهدت عودة فرينكي دي يونج، وفاز بها البلوجرانا على الروخي بلانكوس بهدف فيران توريس.

وقال دي يونج لوسائل إعلام برشلونة بعد المباراة: “الفوز اليوم خطوة كبيرة نحو لقب الليجا، خاصة أننا تفوقنا على خصم صعب وقوي مثل أتلتيكو مدريد الذي لا يخسر بسهولة”.

As far as progress is concerned in Test cricket, West Indies haven’t taken many strides for much of the past decade, though there have been signs of a revival this year. They have lost to Australia at home and England abroad but they have given more than just a glimpse of a fighting ability.The improvement translated to a comfortable series win over New Zealand in August, their first at home since beating England in 2009. They are eyeing a second straight Test series win when they come up against bottom-ranked Bangladesh.Captain Darren Sammy said ahead of West Indies’ first training session in Dhaka on Wednesday, that just like the team pushed itself to win the World Twenty20, it will be doing the same on this tour.”It is more of a belief factor. We have played some good series over the years where we were competing against high-ranked teams, now we believe we can be even more competitive and get results over higher-ranked teams,” Sammy said in Mirpur. “We have a team goal which we want to achieve but this is going to be a step-by-step process.”It’s important to come here and win matches and it’s a challenge we put on ourselves. Just like we forced ourselves to try and win the T20 World Cup, we achieved that and we are now looking forward to the next series which is against Bangladesh. We believe we can achieve our goals.”Between their last series in Bangladesh, where they won the Test series 1-0 and the ODIs 2-1, West Indies have lost three Test series but there have been plenty of positives, chiefly the strength in the leadership. Sammy however believes nothing much has changed in the last 12 months.”My role as a captain has not changed. Every player is aware of what their roles are in the team. Last year I have excelled in the role the team expects me to play, and I don’t see any difference this year.”We just got to bring all our players together and go down and perform on the cricket field. That’s where the performance counts.”Sammy believes that the success since last October has also made the team stronger, though the return of Chris Gayle has also helped matters. “We have definitely improved as a team. A number of players have come on board and we are a little bit more consistent.”We beat New Zealand in both Tests and performances came from different players. We come here with one mission: to win all three series in Bangladesh.”
