South Africa’s 2011 World Cup campaign was fundamentally flawed by a suspect middle order, former coach Mickey Arthur has said. Their top four has proven themselves over a long, long time. They’ve got fantastic records, and I thought if we could break through that, particularly getting down to No. 6 and Botha at No. 7 meant they had a longish tail.”Given that the captain, Graeme Smith, and the coach, Corrie van Zyl, have both chosen to give up their posts after the Cup, it will now be up to yet another leadership axis to pick the lock that seems to separate South African sides from Cup success.”Until South Africa win an ICC event it’s always going to be there,” said Arthur. “The monkey’s almost become a gorilla now and until we win an ICC event it’s always going to be there I’m afraid. They’ve just got to get out there and do it. We’ve always been the most prepared and I remember in my five years, we could never, ever nail it right at the end, and that to me was one of my regrets.”We got to No.1 in the world in both forms of the game over a period of time because we played the most consistent cricket, but there always seemed to be something missing when it became a knockout game, and I just can’t put my finger on it.”

We have been looking forward to this tournament since the completion of our previous tournament in Guernsey in 2009. We have undergone regular camps and established high standard domestic competitions to develop the players as a group and as individuals. The squad was narrowed down in January, and we have had two camps a month and individual training on other weekends. Unfortunately, as a result of the devastating earthquake and tsunami on March 11 this year, we were not able to have our scheduled camps or overseas tour that month. However, in April, we have been able to hold our scheduled camps and I believe that this is the best prepared that we have been for an international tournament. I’m delighted that we will compete at the tournament at our best. We have improved individually and as a group in fitness, technique, and tactically and we are all very much looking forward to the tournament.What do you know about the conditions in Gaborone and do you think your side will be well suited to those conditions?
We understand the pitches are permanent hard wickets, which is what we are used to playing on in Japan. We also understand that the altitude is extremely high which is why we have been working hard on our fitness levels. We will be learning more about the conditions when we arrive, but this will not change how we want to play. Whatever the conditions, we will just believe in ourselves, express ourselves and play to the best of our abilities.There are only four expatriate players in the Japan side while the rest are all native Japanese – how does your development programme work to have such a strong native Japanese element?
In the last 10 years, Japanese cricket has come a long way. New grounds, sponsors, junior development initiatives, and better coaches have all contributed to the development of cricket in Japan. The JCA has worked very hard for its fantastic achievements and that has inspired the players to work hard at training and performing well at tournaments. Encouraging youngsters to take up the sport as well as excellent coaches and improved facilities have contributed to our development and we are seeing players such as Raheel Kano who is amongst the first generation of players coming through the whole participation pathway established 10 years ago. The new generation of young talented players have created a dynamic team environment and we are all very excited get out onto the field and play.Who are the players to watch in your side for this event? We`ve heard good things about Raheel Kano from the U19s, what does he bring to the side?
Yes Raheel is an exciting young leg spinner who has come through the participation programme. Like the other youngsters in the team he plays the game in an exciting way and expresses himself out on the field which is great. A number of youngsters have come into the side in recent times and have gelled really well with the experienced players. However, I believe that we are a well balanced team where everyone contributes, all 14 players and team management. Team work has been an essential weapon for us. Japan is not a team of one star player, but of a great group of players who are proud to represent their country, play as hard as they can, and bring the best out of each other.You`ve obviously faced Nigeria before but what is your knowledge of the other sides in the tournament and have you played any of them recently?
We played Norway and Nigeria in the World Cricket League Division 5 in 2008. Our match against Botswana in that tournament was washed out, but we did see them play. We have heard about Germany and Kuwait from the Vanuatu players who played them in Division 8. All countries have good teams, but we will concentrate on our game plan and do our best.Finally, the JCA have set up `Cricket for Smiles` – can you tell us a little bit about this initiative and also about what it means to you as a captain of the national cricket team and its importance?
As a group we were all upset and touched by the events of 11 March. Some of our players had family in the area and it was a very emotional time for them. We wanted to do something as a group and as an organisation to contribute to the people of the Sendai region in a positive way. A lot of schools have been wiped out and the kids involved have nothing. The idea of the initiative is to introduce cricket to over 200 schools that have been badly affected and provide them with cricket equipment.It is upsetting to watch your county men struggle at a time like this and if we can help in anyway and use cricket to allow the children to smile again then I think it is great! Embora esteja inscrito na Copa Sul-Americana, o centroavante não deve ser relacionado para o jogo contra o Rosario Central, pois ainda não está em plena forma física.

De olho na partida pela Copa Sul-Americana, o São Paulo se reapresenta às 16h da próxima terça para o último treino antes do duelo no Morumbi. Depois de ter empatado na Argentina, em 0 a 0, o Tricolor necessita de uma vitória para avançar de fase na competição internacional.

Irfan Bhatti and Mohammad Murad starred with bat and ball as Kuwait lifted the ICC WCL Division 7 trophy in Gaborone, Botswana, comprehensively beating Nigeria by 72 runs.Kuwait’s top and lower orders were solid enough to ensure they didn’t suffer due to a middle order collapse that saw four wickets fall for 24 runs to seamer Olajide Bejide. Bhatti had started strongly in a 66-run opening stand and struck nine fours and a six in his 60 off 77 deliveries before he fell to Joshua Ogunlola. Kuwait soon slipped from 91 for 1 to 129 for 6 as Bejide ran through the middle order. But Mohammed Naseer and Azmatullah Nazeer revived the innings with a 44-run partnership. Some late hitting from Abdullah Akhunzada and Midhun Pakalapati took Kuwait past 200.Murad bowled Ademola Onikoyi off the third ball of the chase and Nigeria were on the back foot soon at 35 for 3. Ramit Gill (45) and Sean Philips (35) tried to revive the innings in a busy 56-run stand but Pakalapati got the breakthrough, bowling Gill. Nigeria ran out of steam after that and Nazeer had Philips caught behind to effectively seal it. Murad returned to mop up the tail, finishing with 4 for 20, and Nigeria were shot out for 147. Murad was named Player of the Tournament for his 15 wickets. Both teams had already qualified for Division 6.Hisham Mirza, the winning captain, said he did not think Kuwait were favourites coming in to the tournament. “It wasn’t our home tournament and the only side we had background on was Germany, having played them in Division 8. I don’t think I can single out one player that performed for me as we are very much a team effort. However, I will mention my fast bowlers, they’ve been the best in Division 7 and Division 8 in my opinion. They are quick, they are good.”Division 6 would not be easy for Kuwait, Mirza felt, saying that they needed to make sure they were better prepared for the event that takes place in Malaysia in September.Endurance Ofem, the Nigeria captain, said that his side had achieved their purpose of gaining promotion. “The good thing is we’ve played Kuwait twice now so we now know what to expect of them when we face them in Division 6. A diretoria do Flamengo não quer saber de uma nova punição da Conmebol e divulgou na manhã destas segunda-feira mudanças operacionais na forma de ingressar ao Maracanã, na quarta-feira, para o confronto diante do Emelec (EQU), pela Copa Libertadores. Depois de dois jogos de portões fechados para os torcedores, será a primeira vez nesta edição continental que o RUbro-Negro contará com apoio em massa nas arquibancadas.

Na Gávea, aorepresentantes da CET-Rio, Guarda Municipal, Grupamento Especial de Policiamento em Estádios (GEPE), Ferj, Ministério Público Estadual, Juizado do Torcedor, Maracanã S.A, Metrô Rio e Supervia, o CEO do clube Fred Luz explicou como vai ocorrer o acesso ao estádio.

-É um esquema para segurança dos torcedores e evitar transtornos aos moradores da cidade. Desde o jogo da Sul-Americana, Flamengo e órgãos públicos têm feito reuniões que resultaram no plano que será divulgado. E estamos confiantes nessa forma que vamos proceder – disse Luz.

Entre as trocas feitas, o cartão-ingresso de sócio torcedor não será aceito para adentrar ao Maior do Mundo. Quem adquiriu o ingresso precisa ir até um dos 33 postos de trocar para pegar o bilhete físico.

-Não será aceito cartão-ingresso para este jogo. Entendemos que causará transtorno ao torcedor, mas a logística preparada inclui 33 postos de troca. Peço encarecidamente que os torcedores se antecipam e evitem transtornos de última hora – comentou Luz, fazendo um apelo:

-Quem deixar para última hora pode ter a intenção de ir ao jogo frustrada. Um novo problema causado pelo Flamengo ou seus torcedores pode causar punições muito graves na Conmebol.

Os sócios que foram de fora do Rio de Janeiro e vierem para o jogo, haverá ponto de trocas na Rodoviária Novo Rio, além de outras cidades comoMacaé, Cabo Frio, Friburgo e Juiz de Fora.

TRÂNSITO DIFERENTE

Além das mudanças feita de acesso aos torcedores, a CET-Rio comunicou que no dia haverá uma troca na forma do trânsito nas vias de acesso ao Maracanã. OS torcedores que não tiverem ingresso – ou não forem moradores da região – não terão como chegar próximo ao local, em esquema parecido que foi feito na Copa do Mundo de 2014.

-Serão feitos fechamentos adicionais ao que fazemos normalmente. São fechamentos que vão causar impacto por ser dia útil. Com o conhecimento da população, pedimos que busquem rotas alternativas e priorizem o transporte público – revelou Joaquim Diniz, representante da CET-Rio na coletiva.

EFETIVO POLICIAL MAIOR

Outra mudança drástica anunciada é o aumento do efetivo policial para a partida. Serão mais de 400 guardas municipais espalhados em torno do estádio e entre as vias de acesso, tudo para o plano de segurança sair como planejado.

-Dobramos o efetivo para este jogo. Será um total de 443 guardas, dos quais 41 estarão diretamente apoiando os bloqueios da CET-Rio. Não tenho dúvidas de que o evento será um sucesso – contou Carlos Cristo, responsável pela GM.

A Guarda Municipal trabalhará em conjunto com o Gepe (Grupamento Especial de Policiamento nos Estádios), que visa fazer a segurança dos torcedores dentro do estádio e nos arredores.

-Buscamos a maior segurança possível para conforto e tranquilidade de todos. É um jogo de Libertadores, com apelo diferenciado. Por isso, estamos com um aparato maior – comentou Major Sílvio Luiz, do Gepe.

Até agora, á foram vendidos quase 40 mil ingressos para o confronto diante do Emelec, que pode valer a classificação antecipada do Flamengo para as oitavas de final da Copa Libertadores.
