Northamptonshire reached lunch at 83 for 2with opener Peters crawling to 22 in the 30 overs before the break.In the afternoon session, two fine slip catches accounted for both David Sales and Rob White. Sales was snaffled by Mark Cosgrove low down at first slip off Jim Allenby, who then dived to his left at first slip to remove White.Peters eventually reached his fifty, off 147 balls, but then perished to Dean Cosker’s third ball. The slow left-armer had Peters caught via an inside edge on to pad by Rees at short leg as Northamptonshire reached 173 for five in the 59th over.Hall and captain Nicky Boje rode their luck to take Northamptonshire past 200 before Allenby, during a spell of 9-5-9-2, took a second wicket to bowl Boje through the gate.After reaching his half-century from 95 balls Hall went caught at first slip off Cosgrove, who took the catch at extra cover to dismiss James Middlebrook. And before the close both David Lucas and Lee Daggett were both bowled by Harris and Waters respectively.

It means that they are in the hunt for a new coach, specifically a Portuguese one, given their huge success in Brazil in the past.

The Latest: Lage in?

As per PodcasTimao (via ESPN Brasil), agent Will Dantas has suggested Lage’s name to Corinthians president Duilio Monteiro Alves, albeit claiming that it would be ‘very difficult’ to lure him away from the Midlands club and the Premier League. Alves will apparently ‘look into it’:

“I called Duilio and commented on a coach. It’s Bruno Lage, I met him at Benfica, when he was coach of the club. He approved Pedrinho when I took him to the team. I spent an hour talking to the guy while Pedrinho did the exams.

“I think if Corinthians brought him in, it would be a big name. Duilio said he was going to look into it because they offered him the world. He’s studying his options and he’s absolutely right. Bruno was very flattered and was happy with the conversation, but I find it very difficult for him to leave. Today he is perhaps in the main league in the world, in the Premier League.”

The Verdict: Very unlikely

It seems very unlikely that Lage would leave Molineux now, especially given that he is in the middle of his first season and managing outside of the top European leagues may not be an attractive enough option for him.

Nonetheless, he is doing a superb job at the Wanderers, guiding them to eighth place in the top flight so far having conceded the second-fewest number of goals in the entire division, only behind current leaders Manchester City.

Thus, we feel Lage is likely to stay at WWFC and not be swayed by the Corinthians vacancy no matter what they offer him.

But with the scores level the former South Africa international allrounder produced two perfect yorkers to finish, with Darren Pattinson and White run out attempting to scramble the winning runs.That ruined a memorable match for fast bowler Pattinson, who began the contest with a wicket maiden on his way to career-best figures of 4 for 19 as Notts restricted the visitors to just 10 boundaries throughout their innings.Only three Northants batsmen reached double figures in the face of disciplined and probing bowling from the Notts attack, with all but overseas quick Dirk Nannes conceding less than a run a ball. Sem a capacidade goleadora de Jô e com a mudança do esquema de 4-2-3-1 para 4-1-4-1, cresceu a importância dos meias na produção dos gols. Os primeiros tentos da temporada e o próprio jogo contra a Ponte reforçam a tese. No empate contra o PSV (HOL) por 1 a 1 na Florida Cup, cruzamento de Jadson e gol de Rodriguinho. Contra o Rangers, na derrota por 4 a 2, novo cruzamento de Jadson com participação de Kazim e mais um gol de Rodriguinho – o turco fez o outro. Contra a Ponte, não à toa Jadson teve as principais chances do time: uma bola no travessão e um pênalti desperdiçado. E Rodriguinho? Foi mal.

O camisa 26 ficou distante da área e não conseguiu espaço para infiltrar ou finalizar de longa distância, uma de suas características. Assim, o Corinthians perdeu boa parte de seu poder de fogo. Clayson e Romero, os pontas, passam a ter ainda mais obrigações defensivas com a liberação dos dois meias e natural que cheguem com menos força na hora de finalizar. Voltamos à importância da dupla “Jadriguinho”.

Após o jogo, Carille reforçou que não desistirá de Kazim e de nenhum outro jogador e seguirá buscando alternativas para fazer o Corinthians marcar os gols. Além dos já citados, nomes como Júnior Dutra e Lucca surgem como opções, se eventualmente optar por algum teste no lugar do turco. Mas, no momento, parece mais razoável torcer para que o espírito goleador esteja mais aflorado na sua dupla de meia, peça-chave para a nova cara que o comandante pensa em dar ao time.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Steve Bruce revealed that both Kyle Bartley and Matt Phillips are major doubts for Albion’s trip to Sheffield United tomorrow evening, with the defender having fallen ill and the winger having picked up a foot injury.

Speaking about the current condition of his first-team squad, the 61-year-old said: “Unfortunately we have a couple of issues in terms of fitness ahead of the game. We might have lost Kyle Bartley because he is sick and Matty Phillips because he has a foot injury.

“We don’t know the extent of it at this moment in time. It’s part and parcel of the game. We’re going to pick up injuries along the way.”

Com entradas entre R$ 30 e R$ 50, a Mancha Alviverde, principal torcida organizada do clube, foi até a entrada do estádio municipal e, como protesto, não entrou para assistir ao jogo. Eles levaram faixas para mostrar a indignação com a cobrança da FPF.
