Mohammad Azharuddin, the former India captain, and Jaydev Shah, former Saurashtra captain and current president of the SCA (Saurashtra Cricket Association), are part of a seven-member working group formed by the BCCI to oversee the conduct of the upcoming 2021-22 domestic season.The other members include Rohan Jaitley, (DDCA president), Yudhvir Singh (UPCA secretary), Devajit Saikia (ACA secretary) Avishek Dalmiya (CAB secretary) and Santosh Menon (KSCA secretary). In the women’s circuit, the domestic T20 competition was called off, while none of the age-group tournaments were possible.The absence of the Ranji Trophy, the biggest source of income for domestic male cricketers in India, led to a significant decrease in player earnings, leaving many layers without government jobs looking for opportunities elsewhere. Earlier this month, the BCCI announced a full domestic season beginning September with the women’s one-day tournament. As many as 2127 matches – men’s, women’s and age-group – are slated to be conducted across the country. The men’s season is set to kick off with the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s, which will begin five days after the IPL final in the UAE, on October 20. The Ranji Trophy has been slotted into a three-month window, from November 16, 2021 to February 19, 2022.The seven-member committee will also be responsible for feasibility of bio-bubbles across the country for the conduct of the domestic season, apart from finalising venues and logistics. Board president Sourav Ganguly has already underlined the importance of creating bio-bubbles for the season.”We will create bio-bubbles,” he told reporters last week. “We created bubbles for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy last time. We will have to do the same. Without the bubble, cricket cannot happen even for this season.”

Shafali Verma fired for the first time in the Hundred with a brilliant unbeaten 76 as Birmingham Phoenix ended a run of three straight defeats with a thumping 10-wicket over Welsh Fire, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the latter stages just about alive.The precociously talented 17-year-old, who made 96 and 63 on her Test debut against England in June, was so much in control that she was able to hand centre stage to partner Eve Jones towards the end of the chase, allowing the Jones to claim her first half-century of the competition, before stepping up to hit the winning boundary herself as Phoenix cantered home with 24 balls to spare.Bryony Smith led from the front for Fire after Phoenix had chosen to bowl, registering her competition best score with 38 from 36 balls, including five fours and a six over wide long-on off Abtaha Maqsood, but Fire’s next best score was 19 and their 127 for for 9 always looked a little under-par on a good pitch, the result leaving them level on four points with Phoenix going into the last two fixtures.Smith might have made more but was run out after a mix-up with Georgia Redmayne, who declined a single to point off Emily Arlott, leaving Smith stranded halfway down the pitch as Phoebe Franklin threw in to the bowler’s end.Then again, she was dropped on 4 as Erin Burns shelled a low return catch.Otherwise, Fire’s effort with the bat was disappointing. Celtic continued their fantastic start to the Scottish Premiership season with a seventh straight win in the division against Ross County away from Glasgow on Sunday.
The Hoops had to battle from 1-0 down, thanks to a penalty from Ronan Vale, to secure all three points in Dingwall, winning 2-1 after their second-half comeback.
Goals from Alistair Johnston, who deflected Callum McGregor’s shot into the back of the net, and Nicolas Kuhn, who cut inside and passed a left-footed shot into the bottom corner, completed the comeback for the Scottish giants.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have now won all seven of their games in the Premiership and that penalty from Vale on Sunday was the first goal that Kasper Schmeichel had conceded in a league game for the club, having kept six clean sheets in his first six outings.
The summer signing has enjoyed a terrific start to life in Glasgow, and Auston Trusty, Arne Engels, Alex Valle, Paulo Bernardo, Adam Idah, and Luke McCowan also featured against Ross County after joining in the summer transfer window.
Rodgers could look to make further additions to his playing squad when the January transfer window opens for business midway through the campaign, and Daizen Maeda is one player who could be upgraded.
Daizen Maeda's mixed success in the Premiership
The Japan international had scored in three successive matches in all competitions ahead of the clash away at Ross County in the Premiership on Sunday.
In the 2-1 win at the weekend, Maeda endured a frustrating afternoon on the left flank for the Hoops. He had three shots and missed one ‘big chance’ and lost five of his six duels, as the winger ended the match with zero goals and zero assists.
The 26-year-old’s wasteful finishing has been a theme throughout his time under Rodgers since the start of last season, and has been evident in the Premiership this term.

As you can see in the table above, he has missed six ‘big chances’ and only scored two goals in six appearances, which shows that the winger has not made the most of the high-quality opportunities that his teammates have created for him so far.
In the 2023/24 campaign, Maeda only scored six goals in 28 league outings for the Scottish giants and spurned 12 ‘big chances’ in that time.
The Japanese forward also made just 0.5 key passes per game and ended that league campaign with three assists, which meant that the attacker failed to reach double figures for goals and assists combined.

Since the start of last season, the Celtic winger has contributed with eight goals and five assists in 34 appearances, whilst missing 18 ‘big chances’.
With this in mind, Rodgers could land an upgrade on Maeda by swooping for a left winger with the quality to offer more in the final third – Bazoumana Toure.

Last month, Swedish outlet FotbollDirekt reported that Celtic are one of a number of teams interested in signing Hammarby youngster Toure in the January transfer window.
The outlet claimed that Hoops chief scout Joe Lefevre has been left impressed by the 18-year-old star’s superb performances in Sweden, and that the Scottish giants have a serious interest in the forward.
It added, however, that they will face significant competition to land his signature if they decide to pursue a deal for his services. Crystal Palace, Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica, and Eintracht Frankfurt are all also keen on the talented winger.
Amid heavy interest from teams across Europe, Hammarby are said to be hoping to rake in a fee of around €10m (£8.3m) for the teenage starlet.
However, it remains to be seen whether or not any of the reportedly interested sides – including Celtic – are prepared to spend that kind of money on the Ivorian maestro.
Rodgers should now look to move quickly and secure a deal for Toure before any of the other teams are able to swoop in ahead of the Hoops, as the Hammarby phenomenon has the potential to come in as an upgrade on Maeda on the left flank from January onwards.
Why Celtic should sign Bazoumana Toure
Despite only turning 18 in March, shortly before his move to Hammarby from ASEC Mimosas, the winger has already showcased his ability to make a big impact in the final third.
The teenage sensation has produced seven goals and three assists in all competitions for the Swedish outfit this year, which shows that the youngster has the maturity and ability to provide regular quality at first-team level already.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig hailed him earlier this year, as shown in the post above, by describing the talented youngster as a “superb” player.
He backed his opinion up with the forward’s statistics in the Allsvenskan up to that point, which was in July, and the 18-year-old wizard has continued his fine form in recent months.

As you can see in the table above, Toure has matched Maeda’s goal and assist return from the 2023/24 campaign in nine fewer appearances, whilst only missing one ‘big chance’.
The electric forward, who has also created 1.2 chances per game in the 2024 campaign, has been far more clinical in front of goal than the Japan international this year, which suggests that he could offer a greater goal threat for the Hoops.
His 1.2 key passes per game are also more than double Maeda’s 0.5 key passes per match in the 2023/24 Premiership campaign, and this suggests that the youngster could also provide more creativity for the Scottish giants on the left flank.
If Toure can translate those performances over to the Premiership, and develop further – given he is just 18, then the teenage winger could come in as an upgrade on Maeda for Rodgers in the second half of the season and beyond, thanks to his quality as a scorer and a creator.

Question marks have risen over the future of Afghanistan in international cricket following the Taliban’s reported opposition to women playing the sport.The fallout has already begun with the Australian sports minister Richard Colbeck telling that Afghan athletes would “remain welcome in Australia, but not under the flag of the Taliban”. The men are scheduled to play their first-ever Test in the country later this year but in light of these events that is now under some doubt.The ICC said it was monitoring the changing situation in Afghanistan and was concerned about the media reports that women will no longer be allowed to play cricket. A spokesperson said: “This and the impact it will have on the continued development of the game will be discussed by the ICC Board at its next meeting.”On Wednesday, the deputy head of the Taliban’s cultural commission, Ahmadullah Wasiq, told that it wasn’t “necessary” for women to play cricket because “they might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered. The home side started as they meant to go on, with striker Michail Antonio gifting West Ham a very early lead in the first minute. Liam Delap equalised for Ipswich minutes later in a brief scare for the east Londoners, before star winger Mohammed Kudus restored their advantage moments before half-time.
Forward Jarrod Bowen then gave West Ham a two-goal lead just after the restart, handing Lopetegui’s men some much-needed breathing room to ease the tension, with Lucas Paqueta sealing all three points 20 minutes from full-time.

West Ham’s first Premier League win since their 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace in the summer was a much-needed one, with some believing beforehand that Lopetegui was at risk of losing his job if the club’s lacklustre form continued.
As well as in an attacking sense, the Irons were far better defensively, with Jean-Clair Todibo putting in an 8/10 performance against Ipswich as the Frenchman begins to form a solid partnership with Max Kilman.
Kudus’ display attracted real attention too, with the Ghanian getting on the scoresheet, completing 93% of his passes and attempting five shots on goal in what was a very threatening display (WhoScored).

The 24-year-old is one of Lopetegui’s best players, and has been key to West Ham since he joined the club from Ajax for £38 million last summer. This has led to reports that elite clubs could attempt to poach him, with Chelsea showing a reported interest in Kudus at various points.
Speaking to Football Insider, former West Ham recruitment employee Mick Brown, who remains well-connected at the club after leaving his post in June, has suggested that Chelsea could still move to sign Kudus – even if they don’t need him – and says that he knows clubs are interested and watching him.
“I know other clubs are interested and have been watching him,” said Brown.
“But I’ve seen an £85million release clause mentioned, I’ve heard that could put some of the interested clubs off of a move. It would have to be a situation where he wants to leave the club, but then you look around and you can’t see anybody who’s going to pay £85million for him.

“Man City have got enough wide players already, Liverpool won’t be able to afford it, where would he fit in the Arsenal team? Where does he go in the Chelsea team? Madueke is doing very well and improving, Cole Palmer is one of the best players in the league at the moment, they’ve got another load of wide players who don’t get near the team.
“You never know with Chelsea, though. We’ll see what happens with them. I’ve been told there are a lot of teams who want to sign Kudus from West Ham, and there are only three or four clubs who could maybe afford that price.
“But then you look at what they’ve already got, and they don’t need him.”

وتمكن برشلونة من تسجيل هدف أول في شباك بنفيكا، في الدقيقة 11 من عمر الشوط الأول، عن طريق رافينها، بعد أسيست من لامين يامال حيث قدم الأخير مهارة فردية رائعة بعدما نجح في مراوغة المدافعين ثم مرر كرة سحرية إلى البرازيلي الذي سددها في الشباك.
ولكن تفوق برشلونة لم يستمر طويلًا، حيث تمكن بنفيكا من تسجيل هدف التعادل في الدقيقة 13، بعد ركلة ركنية حيث وصلت الكرة إلى منطقة الجزاء، لتصل إلى نيكولاس أوتامندي الذي سددها برأسه في شباك تشيزني.
وأضاف لامين يامال ثاني أهداف برشلونة بتسديدة رائعة سكنت شباك تروبين بالدقيقة 27.
بينما نجح رافينها في التوقيع على ثنائيته الخاصة وثالث أهداف برشلونة بحلول الدقيقة 42، من صناعة أليكس بالدي.
في الشوط الثاني ومع الدقيقة 65، أهدر فرينكي دي يونج فرصة سهلة لتسجيل رابع أهداف برشلونة أمام الضيوف.
وشهد أغلب فترات الشوط الثاني سيطرة واضحة من جانب برشلونة دون تهديد حقيقي على مرمى بنفيكا، ليفوز برشلونة بثلاثة أهداف مقابل هدف.
بذلك سيضرب برشلونة موعداً مع المتأهل من مباراة بوروسيا دورتموند وليل في الدور ربع النهائي بمسابقة دوري أبطال أوروبا بالشهر المقبل.
