CSA facing further financial losses and doubts about viability of upcoming tours

The bubble has burst. Of all the problems South African cricket faces at the moment, this is the one CSA wanted to avoid most. Their capacity to host international cricket has been compromised by what appear to be breaches of the bio-secure environment and now a tour hangs in the balance.After three positive cases of their own, South Africa’s visitors England are waiting for ratification of two positive results on their side. If it is confirmed that members of the touring party have Covid-19, both them and their close contacts will have to quarantine in South Africa before returning home, something that could cut into festive season plans.Considering that England came off a bubbled home summer, in which there were no recorded positive cases, and some of their players were also in a bubbled IPL, where early cases emerged but the tournament progressed without a hitch, their experience in South Africa has left much to be desired.ALSO READ: ODI cancelled again after positive tests among players, hotel staffEngland expressed concerns about the integrity of the bubble when a South Africa player tested positive on Thursday. Now that the virus may have reached their own camp, those worries can only have multiplied. And South Africa will need to be more proactive in attempting to figure out where things went wrong.CSA conducted an investigation to determine what appeared to be a potential breach that resulted in Thursday’s positive test but were unable to conclude how that may have happened. They denied that the player, or anyone else, could have left the bubble and their scrutiny of security footage did not reveal anything incriminating. They are also unsure how two hotel staff members tested positive, with the Vineyard confirming that the pair do not work in the same part of the hotel, and have not left the establishment since November 16. But not every member of staff is living at the hotel.ESPNcricinfo understands that around 60 staff members are resident at the hotel and, of those, there are 20-30 who come into contact with players. The hotel also has a separate isolation wing, where the two staff members and the player who tested positive are being put up.CSA insists the South Africa player who tested positive did not come into contact with any of his team-mates, which is why no one else is in isolation and it stands by the assertion that the two teams have not mixed at all. South Africa and England occupy different areas of the hotel and do not even use the same corridors. A source close to the camp insists that if players talk to each other, they do so “at a distance”, although technically this should not be necessary if the bubble is secure.The warning signs were there on November 20 that this bubble may not be. The first player had not entered the bubble at all, and was accommodated separately from the rest, so he did not pose any risk. The second player is understood to have contracted the virus from the outside, before the tour began, and taken it into the bubble. He was removed from the hotel but no one else was isolated because CSA said the players had been socially distant and the rest of the group all had negative results.The third incident is believed to have no relation to the second and has arisen inside an established bubble, creating the most cause for concern. It is not known whether England’s cases, if they are positive, are a result of the third case.All we do know is that this bubble is not as tightly controlled as those that were in place in England or at the IPL. Players are allowed to leave for rounds of golf at Boschenmeer, near Boland Park in Paarl, and South Africa have permission to train at the Vineyard Oval, across the road from the hotel. The insider confirmed that CSA tried to be flexible in allowing for some recreation, because of concerns about player welfare and bubble fatigue. There is also an indication they may have to relook at that idea for the next series, if there is one.South Africa are also due to host Sri Lanka, Australia and Pakistan this summer and doubtless all of them will look at the way this series played out when deciding if they want to make the trip. Sri Lanka have the least time, and are expected to depart their relatively Covid-free island in 12 days to play two Tests in the Highveld over the festive season. CSA is planning on putting both teams up at the Irene Country Club in Centurion, rather than a hotel, because of the range of activities on offer. The club has an 18-hole golf course, six tennis courts, a bowling green, squash courts and a driving range. Sri Lanka will be comfortable, but they might want assurances that they will be safe as well.Venues for the Australia Tests have yet to be announced but CSA was planning on playing at the coastal venues in Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. At the moment, Nelson Mandela Bay, where Port Elizabeth is located, is a coronavirus hotspot and has stricter regulations than the rest of the country, while in Cape Town there has been a 43% increase in new Covid-19 cases over the last week. Those trends may change by the time Australia are due to arrive in mid-February but, given how well Australia have handled the pandemic (they are playing sport with spectators in the stadiums), it would be understandable if they were wary of traveling to South Africa. The England and Australia tours are the only opportunity for the organisation to host profit-making series this summer and will be crucial for when its broadcast rights deal is renegotiated next April. South Africa can command a decent television rights deal if their team is strong and if the results of series against India, England and Australia are uncertain. The team’s form in the last 18 months and the shrinking economy means that the broadcast deal is already at risk of being lower than CSA might like. For an organisation staring at the red – losses were previously forecast at US$42 million for the current four-year cycle – these are worrying signs.The problem is that to host matches successfully, CSA has to spend money and, in these times, much more money than usual. As an example, it is carrying the cost of all the Covid-19 tests, at R850 (US$55) each. With several hundred tests needing to be conducted across the entire South African and English camps, all the hotel staff and match officials, CSA is footing a huge bill, which also explains why it is so desperate for this series to go ahead.The six matches are understood to be worth US$4.2 million and though CSA has already made some of that through the T20s, it will lose some from the abandoned first ODI and more if the rest of the series doesn’t go ahead. South Africa is already losing its reputation as one of the sporting world’s best organisers – remember that the 2009 IPL was moved here with just a few weeks’ lead time, while the 2010 Football World Cup was hailed as a success – and appears unable to put the required measures in place for the times. The men’s team are also losing the chance to earn points in the World Cup Super League.Cricket South Africa and cricket in South Africa are in crisis and this will only deepen it. The bubble has burst and the aftermath is likely to be messy.

وقال أسامة عرابي في مداخلة عبر برنامج “اللعبة الحلوة”، على إذاعة “أون سبورت إف إم”: “حالة سموحة في الدوري غريبة بسبب النتائج، حتى الآن مُهددين أن يكونوا في الـ 9 أندية التي تنافس على البقاء في الدوري، ولذلك وارد إن يكون عندهم دوافع أمام الأهلي اليوم ويُحققون المفاجأة”.

وأضاف: “بالنسبة للأهلي، ظروفه مرتبكة بعد الخسارة أمام شباب بلوزداد ومشاكل الصفقات، لكن في النهاية هو النادي الأهلي، لاعبيه خبراتهم أكبر من لاعبي سموحة، سيكون عليهم ضغط وستكون مباراة صعبة، لكن المارد الأحمر فرصته أكبر في حسم اللقاء”.

وأشار: “محمد الشناوي هو الحارس الأول في مصر، سواء مع الأهلي أو المنتخب، وصنع الفارق كثيرًا، ولا يصح إن لاعب أخطأ مرة أو إثنين في بعض المباريات، أن أحمله الخطأ وأنسى تاريخه، الشناوي لا زال الحارس الأول”.

واستمر: “لا يجب أن نُحمل الشناوي نتيجة مباراة شباب بلوزداد، لأن كولر أخطأ أكثر منه بكثير من خلال التشكيل والتغييرات، ولو الشناوي كان يرفض الجلوس احتياطيًا، فالخطأ الأكبر عند المدير الفني ومجلس الإدارة، الكابتن الخطيب هو رئيس لجنة الكرة وكان ممكن يتحدث مع الحارس ويرفض ما يفعله، لأنه لا يصح إن لاعب لا يشارك ويرفض الجلوس احتياطيًا”.

وبسؤاله، رأيك في رحيل بيرسي تاو عن الأهلي، قال عرابي: “أي لاعب يرحل ممكن النادي يتعاقد مع لاعب أفضل منه، لكن هل الأهلي يستطيع أن يدفع أموال لشراء بديله في ظل ارتفاع الأسعار، المفترض إن المصروفات لا تتخطى الإيرادات، محمد صلاح أهم لاعب في ليفربول، الإدارة تساومه على الراتب حتى لا تتخطى حدا معينا”.

واختتم: “بيرسي تاو كان يتقاضى حوالي مليون و300 ألف دولار، وهو كان لاعبا جيدا مع الأهلي، ولا أفهم سبب إن كولر لم يعد يعتمد عليه”.

A "world class" player is "one to watch" as Newcastle United seek an alternative to Michael Olise this summer, according to an update from Ben Jacobs.

The Magpies are being linked with exciting talent everywhere you look, while also trying to ensure that they retain the services of key players such as Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak. They are said to be hopeful of agreeing a new deal with the latter, which would be a major boost.

In terms of incoming additions, Newcastle have been linked with a summer move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, with the Scot considered a target for some time now. Eddie Howe will view him as a player who could add depth in the middle of the park, possessing box-to-box energy and scoring seven goals in the Premier League last season.

Newcastle have also reportedly made contact with Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, in what arguably represents a surprise rumour. The Brazilian did very little on loan at Liverpool in 2022/23, making just one solitary appearance for them, and he hasn't kicked on since an earlier spell at Barcelona.

Mainz youngster Brajan Gruda is a big talent with a bright future in the game, and the Magpies are currently battling with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich for his signature. Primarily an attacking midfielder or winger, he could be considered a long-term option who could grow into a special player.

Newcastle backed to sign "world class" winger

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs said that Newcastle could look to sign Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville as an alternative to new Bayern Munich signing Olise this summer, calling the situation "one to watch".

"We obviously also know that Newcastle were one of the clubs that approached for Michael Olise, which sort of shows you that they're looking for that wide, creative, minded player. And although the cost of Olise was too high for Newcastle to proceed, there'll be other options on the market that I'm sure Newcastle feel are within their budget.

"Crysencio Summerville could be one to watch, although no approach has yet been made to Leeds United."

Summerville feels increasingly likely to leave Leeds this summer, considering he won't want to spend another year in the Championship, and he could be a fantastic option for Newcastle.

The 22-year-old is fresh off the back of a stunning season on a personal level, scoring 20 goals and registering nine assists in the league, and being named the Championship's best player at the end of the campaign. He has been lauded as "world class" by journalist Jake Winderman, and he is still a young player with further gears to find.

Esta é a terceira vez em que as partes chegam a um acordo por essa dívida, sendo que as duas primeiras não foram cumpridas pelo Timão em 2018 e em 2019, o que ocasionou o aumento substancial do valor ao longo dos últimos anos por conta do acréscimo de juros, correções, multas e honorários.

O novo acordo prevê que o Corinthians pague os quase R$ 13,7 milhões em 150 parcelas de R$91.303,17. Dessa forma, se tudo for corretamente cumprido pelo clube, o último pagamento deve ser efetuado apenas em março de 2034.

Se não houver o pagamento dessas parcelas, isso culminará em multa de 0,33% por dia de atraso sobre o valor devido, sendo que o limite de 20% foi estabelecido. Em caso de a inadimplência chegar a 90 dias, será executado o vencimento antecipado das parcelas, com multa de 10% sobre o total da dívida, além de correções e honorários por conta da nova execução do acordo.

Vale destacar que a dívida, em seu início, em 2016, era de R$ 3.277.099,98, relativos a 313 eventos do clube em que a CET trabalhou e não foi remunerada por organizar o trânsito nos arredores do Parque São Jorge.

Highlighting the need for extra cover down the left-hand side, INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe could now turn to a familiar face this summer.

According to Graeme Bailey for HITC, Manchester United are now eyeing a move to sign Archie Brown from KAA Gent in what would see INEOS sign the left-back for a second time, having secured his signature at Swiss side Lausanne-Sport in 2021.

The 22-year-old came through Derby County's academy, before completing a free move to Lausanne and eventually discovering his best form in Belgium at Gent. Now, three years after leaving English football, Brown could get the biggest move of his career in the form of Manchester United.

It's been quite the journey for Brown so far throughout his career. He started at Derby, before finding his feet in Switzerland and earning the interest of Premier League sides after thriving in Belgium. Now, his next stop could be Old Trafford in what would be a full circle moment back to English football for the first time in three years.

At 22 years of age, there are likely to be more stops along the way towards stardom too, but Manchester United may hope to have found their heir to Shaw's left-back role if they secure Brown's signature this summer.

The Derby academy graduate certainly has his fans in Belgium, with Gent's former head of scouting, Samuel Cardenas, telling the club's official website following Brown's arrival: "Archie is a player we followed last season in the Swiss 2nd division. He first played as a central defender and then quickly switched to the left-back position.

"For us, he is an option in both positions. Archie has all the qualities to succeed here: he is a complete player, fast, athletic, a solid defender and technically very strong with dynamism and attacking impulses."

Despite a shrinking broadcast market, the PCB has managed to secure a three-year deal to televise all home internationals and the Pakistan Super League in the UK with Sky Sports. Having already signed a landmark deal with state broadcaster Pakistan Television (PTV) to take care of the local market, they have also negotiated tie-ups in North America (Willow TV), the Caribbean (Flow Sports), Africa (Supersport) and New Zealand (Sky Sport),The PCB’s focus now shifts to finding a suitable party that will air their matches in the biggest region for cricket viewership – South Asia; mainly India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Discussions with potential broadcasters are already underway in the region – and in Australia and the Middle East as well – but ESPNcricinfo understands that if they fail to secure a deal, they may go with the open streaming services available in the respective countries. They had struck their previous two deals with Ten Sports, owned by Sony Pictures Sports Network. But with political ties strained between Pakistan and India, it has been more difficult to negotiate this time, the PCB ultimately missing out on a major broadcaster with wider global reach. The PCB has also announced that Sony Pictures Network India has won the broadcast rights to Pakistan’s home series for three years. The deal is inclusive of internationals played in the country, and the PSL.
“Through this deal, cricket fans in South Asia will be able to follow and enjoy high-quality cricket action in Pakistan across all formats,” PCB chief executive Wasim Khan said of the deal.

“Despite the challenging Covid-19 times, these remain incredibly exciting times for Pakistan cricket,” PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said. “The homecoming of all cricket has attracted leading sport broadcast partners to place Pakistan cricket on their networks which, in turn, will provide enhanced access to our fans and supporters across the world to follow and stay connected with us.”This is a huge achievement for the PCB, not only in terms of succeeding in taking cricket to our global fans through these popular networks but to also maximise and exploit our media rights to ensure we continue to invest in our player welfare and development as well as cricketing infrastructure. The interest of these global sport networks also reflects that Pakistan cricket remains an attractive product for the international broadcasters. We now need to make our product bigger and stronger so that we can extend these partnerships and relationship beyond 2023.”Pakistan has a packed home season at home starting with the South Africa Tests from January 26 followed by the sixth edition of PSL with 34 matches. As the year goes on, they are also set to host New Zealand (white-ball), England (men’s and women’s T20Is) and West Indies (white-ball). And in 2022, Australia is due for a full tour with England and New Zealand returning for Test and ODI series. The 2023 calendar is still being chalked out.

وقال هيسكي في تصريحاته إلى “Instant Casino”: “يمكن أن يشتت انتباه اللاعبين، خاصة عندما يكون أحد أكبر الأندية في العالم هو الذي يبدي اهتمامه، والمخاطر عالية”.

وأضاف: “يتطلب الأمر قوة ذهنية حقيقية لتجاهل ذلك، أنت تنظر إلى محمد صلاح، لم يتراجع مستواه أبدًا في ظل الأحاديث حول عقده هذا الموسم”.

وأردف: “يتطلب الأمر قوة ذهنية حقيقية لتجاوز تلك الأوقات كلاعب، قد يكون من الصعب التعامل مع عدم اليقين، وكذلك اهتمام الأندية الأخرى، ستكون لديك صعود وهبوط في مستواك”.

وتابع: “الحقيقة هي أنه فاز بالدوري في ليفربول، لا يوجد سوى نادي واحد أو ناديان سيجذبانك بعيدًا عن ليفربول، وهما ريال مدريد وبرشلونة، لذا، فهي مسألة صعبة حقًا”.

West Ham United are ready to make an offer for yet another player this summer as they look to continue their transfer blitz ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

Julen Lopetegui's side for the first game of the new season is set to look very different to that which David Moyes oversaw in 2023-24, with West Ham having agreed a whole host of new signings this summer.

The east Londoners had already confirmed the arrivals of Wolves captain Max Kilman and Brazilian teenage talent Luis Guilherme in deals worth close to £70m this summer, as well as the signing of Wes Foderingham from relegated Sheffield United on a free transfer.

But they have gone into overdrive in recent days; Crysencio Summerville has arrived from Leeds United in a deal believed to be worth in excess of £25m, with the Championship player of the year penning a five year deal at the London Stadium.

Meanwhile, two more new faces are expected to be confirmed on Monday. The first of those is Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug, who has already completed his medical ahead of a switch to east London in a move that is expected to set the Hammers back a fee of 32m euros (£27m).

The second of those is free agent Guido Rodriguez, who saw his time with Real Betis come to a close this summer and is now set to pen a two year deal at the London Stadium to bolster their midfield ranks. Now, they have been linked with a move for another midfielder.

He continued that form in the Scottish Premiership opener, grabbing an assist as his side thrashed Kilmarnock 4-0. And his form was hailed by Brendan Rodgers at the end of the 2023-24 season, with the ex-Liverpool boss dubbing him "phenomenal".

“He has been absolutely phenomenal really in his consistency. I think if we lacked anything as a team, it was probably that," Rodgers explained. "It’s huge testament to himself because the work he puts in, the focus he puts in every single day at training to improve and be better, that’s clearly been rewarded by his team-mates and everyone else. It’s very well deserved."

So far, Atalanta have seen three bids for the 23-year-old turned down, while Chelsea and Southampton are also thought to be monitoring the situation.

So too are West Ham, with the report claiming that Lopetegui's side "have shown strong interest" and "are prepared to make a move" for O'Riley, with the Hammers "ready to enter negotiations" over signing the Danish international.

However, they are "hesitant" to pay the £25m asking price for O'Riley, the report continues, which could leave the door open for another club to sneak in and snatch their target if they are not careful.
