After 37 wickets in two days, South Australia are 81 runs behind with three second-innings wickets in hand
The Report by Daniel Brettig12-Mar-2019

South Australia middle-order batsman Jake Lehmann stood between Queensland and outright victory after another frenetic day of wickets against the moving, bouncing Dukes ball in a Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba in Brisbane. As though not content with the 17 wickets that fell on day one, the two sides gave up 20 on day two, 10 for each side, as the quick end of the Redbacks’ first innings and the rapid decline of the Bulls’ second left SA with a victory target of 175.Bowlers on both sides enjoyed themselves, but none more so than SA left-arm spinner Tom Andrews, who finished the match with 9 for 82 after picking up three second innings victims the day after he had opened up the match with a haul of 6 for 40.In stark contrast, Bulls’ wrist spinner Mitch Swepson is yet to bowl a single ball in the match, as their captain Jimmy Peirson stuck with the all-pace attack of Michael Neser, Luke Feldman, Cameron Gannon and Mark Steketee. At 7 for 82 in SA’s chase, it appeared that the Bulls were headed for full points inside two days, but Lehmann found an ally in Nick Winter, as the pair crept to the close to keep the Redbacks in with some chance of a win. Lehmann’s 41 not out is already the highest individual score of the match.
Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Monday evening in the FA Cup was remarkably their first away win since November.
Despite progressing, the Red Devils were underwhelming, which has become a common theme this season.
United are eighth in the Premier League, and with that in mind, Erik ten Hag will be desperately wanting to improve his squad for the back end of the campaign.
Perhaps bringing in a Premier League midfielder would do the trick for the Dutchman.
Man Utd transfers latest – midfield hunt for Ten Hag
According to Football Transfers, Man United have opened talks with Amadou Onana of Everton.
It is rumoured that a deal involving Scott McTominay going to the Toffees could be on the cards, which would see Onana swap Merseyside for Manchester.
A move could occur this January, but Everton are looking for a fee in the region of £60m according to prior reports from Football Insider.
How Kobbie Mainoo could benefit from Amadou Onana
Monday's game against Wigan further cemented the fact that Kobbie Mainoo is arguably one of United’s most important players at the moment.
Despite being just 18 years old, he controlled the midfield all by himself having completed 90% of his passes and won a staggering ten ground duels. Such work has made the teenager simply undroppable.

However, what was also obvious is the need for a player to partner him in the middle of the park, because although the youngster is excellent, he cannot take on all the defensive midfield responsibility alone. That dream partner could be Onana, who would provide the perfect balance and support to Ten Hag’s team.
The table below shows Onana’s statistics from the 2023/24 Premier League campaign and how he ranks compared to positional peers in the division.

Firstly, what stands out instantly about Onana is the fact that he is very strong out of possession, and he is dominant due to his power, size, and athleticism, which is why he has been compared to Patrick Vieira by former Belgium coach Roberto Martinez.
The former Everton boss once stated: “Sometimes he reminds you of a young Patrick Vieira in the way that he can drive with the ball,"
The 22-year-old stands at 6 foot 4, which clearly makes him useful in both penalty boxes. United are quite a short team overall, and Onana’s ability to be dominant in the air would help defend long balls and set pieces in particular.
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
The Everton star also has long legs, which allow him to tackle with ease and regain possession for his side by recovering the ball. His size and frame also allow him to cover ground quickly, which will significantly reduce the number of transitions and cutbacks that the Red Devils concede from.
Due to playing for an Everton side that rarely dominates possession and endures long spells without the ball, the former Lille players’ passing statistics are not that impressive. However, he has shown glimpses of technical class, and in a different environment, like United, he could flourish.
Having said that, if playing next to Mainoo, Onana would be the slightly more defensive of the two, which would allow the 18-year-old to play further forward, where he can impact the game with his close dribbling and creativity.
Man Utd could sign a bigger talent than Mainoo in 2024
Manchester United could strengthen their midfield in the January transfer window.
ByMatt Dawson Dec 24, 2023
However, the United academy graduate is also secure out of possession, as shown by his eight tackles won versus Wigan, and together they would be a complete midfield duo.
Signing Onana would be an excellent move by United, especially if they could bargain with Everton for a cheaper fee or/and a swap deal. Onana and Mainoo have the potential to dominate the Premier League for years to come, and therefore, the Red Devils must look to sign the Belgian.

Liverpool are in quite the commanding position this season after putting the malaise of the 2022/23 campaign to bed, Jurgen Klopp enforcing sweeping changes to the midfield to charge the title-chasing endeavours.
Sitting pretty in first place in the Premier League, holding the advantage over Fulham after the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie and having advanced in the FA Cup and Europa League, there is a growing sense that the Reds could engineer something special this year.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Last summer's transfer activity was indeed crucial but has meant that heavy spending this month just isn't feasible, though that's not to say that plans aren't being drawn up in preparation for business at the end of the term.
Liverpool transfer targets – summer
According to Calciomercato over in Italy, Liverpool are interested in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Heoriy Sudakov and have already held discussions to determine the possibility of a transfer.
Liverpool could sign Van Dijk's new Gomez in "incredibly fast" £13m titan
Jurgen Klopp’s side have expressed interest in this dynamic defender of late.
ByAngus Sinclair Jan 19, 2024
Barcelona, Napoli and Juventus are all named as suitors though Liverpool will be confident that their financial strength is enough to get this one over the line in the summer, with his Ukrainian outfit demanding a ballpark figure of €40m (£34m) for his departure.
Heoriy Sudakov's style of play
Named as Shakhtar's Player of the Year in 2023, Sudakov, aged just 21, is fast establishing himself as one of Europe's most exciting rising stars, having now chalked up 85 senior appearances for his club and clinched 13 goals and 13 assists apiece after graduating from the academy.
This season, as per Sofascore, Sudakov has played ten times in the Ukrainian Premier League and has completed 86% of his passes, averaging 1.6 key passes, 1.5 interceptions, 3.6 ball recoveries and 3.1 dribbles per match.
Lauded for his "exquisite" technical prowess and creativity by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Sudakov would offer a range of qualities for Klopp's side and no doubt has the potential to make a solid career on English shores.
As per FBref, the versatile midfielder ranks among the top 20% of positional peers for shot-creating actions and the top 21% for progressive carries per 90, likened to Premier League players such as Aston Villa's John McGinn – who has been hailed for his "monstrous" performances by The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell – for his high-energy approach and penetrative presence.
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov.
However, given that he would cost a relatively large amount, there is a question about whether signing him would be the most prudent venture given the need for reinforcements across other areas.
Moreover, he stylistically matches up to Harvey Elliott across numerous facets and adding him to the ranks may have a negative effect on the influential England U21 international, who has earned acclaim for his efforts this term.
Elliott, aged 20, has featured prominently in Liverpool's cup competitions this season while largely sitting on the fringes in the Premier League, and while the £40k-per-week dynamo has impressed he has voiced concerns over his role as a 'super sub'.
Given Sudakov's creativity and progression are among his standout attributes, there's no need to further negotiations for his signature, with Elliott ranking among the top 9% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues for shot-creating actions, the top 6% for progressive passes and the top 4% for progressive carries per 90.
As such, Liverpool's transfer kitty is best applied elsewhere come the end of the campaign, with Elliott undoubtedly one of the most exciting playmaking talents in the business right now.

This is the joint-worst streak of losses in IPL history; Capitals meanwhile record their third win in six games
The Report by Peter Della Penna07-Apr-2019
BCCI
Royal Challengers Bangalore slumped to their sixth straight loss in IPL 2019. They first struggled to 149, and then saw Shreyas Iyer wallop 67 after a costly let-off on a two-paced pitch. This knock helped Delhi Capitals overcome a late wobble to secure a four-wicket win. It was their third win in six games this season.Virat Kohli managed to face just 33 balls for his 41 despite staying at the crease until the 18th over, before falling to Kagiso Rabada to start a triple-wicket over. This ensured Royal Challengers didn’t get a finishing kick.Tim Southee struck three balls into the chase to give Royal Challengers a spark with the ball. They should have had Iyer off the last ball of his first, but for a costly fumble by Parthiv Patel, who reacted late. Prithvi Shaw took the attack to him in the next over by hitting him for four successive fours and Iyer went on to hit his first half-century of the season to take Capitals to within striking distance. They lost two more wickets to induce some nerves, but Axar Patel finished off the chase by hitting a boundary with seven balls to spare.Ice Kohl’d Kohli was nearly out to the first ball he faced when Chris Morris got one to rise off a length. The thick edge flew wide of Shikhar Dhawan at slip, but he couldn’t capitalise on the let off and was pinned off strike for much of the next 90 minutes as batsmen came and went. He faced just 33 of 103 RCB’s deliveries during his time at the crease.Parthiv slashed Morris to third man, where Sandeep Lamichhane took a sharp catch running forward to end the second over. AB de Villiers then became Rabada’s first victim of the day on the last ball of the Powerplay. He miscued a slower delivery to Colin Ingram, who pouched a catch running back from mid-on.Marcus Stoinis, promoted to No. 4, tried to flat bat Axar Patel over long-on but couldn’t clear Rahul Tewatia in the 11th. Moeen Ali showed a bit of intent against Lamichhane, charging him for one of three sixes in his 32 off 18 but was then stumped failing to read a googly.Kohli’s strike rate remained under 100 at the start of Lamichhane’s final over in the 17th as he struggled to generate any rhythm from the lack of strike. He swatted Lamichhane twice over the leg side for six, but was out soon after to Rabada as Royal Challengers tumbled.Rabada on a roll De Villiers wasn’t his only scalp. Rabada, who was later named Player of the Match, returned to start a devastating 18th over. Kohli skied a drive to Iyer at long-on. Two balls later, he had Akshdeep Nath caught behind after he tried to steer a length ball past the wicketkeeper. Only a ball earlier, he managed to dab it wide of the wicketkeeper for a boundary. The over ended with Pawan Negi failing in an attempt to ramp a short ball over Rishabh Pant. This left Royal Challengers on 138 for 7.Rabada couldn’t seal the deal on what would have been his maiden T20 five-for in the 20th over, but he still only managed to concede just seven runs to complete a sterling spell and ensure the first innings total was well under par.Aye aye Iyer Royal Challengers fluffed four chances in a wretched display against Rajasthan Royals. While the quantity of let-offs was far fewer here, the quality of the batsman they let off here didn’t help them. Iyer added 63 after being dropped on four as he got a thick edge to Parthiv.Iyer was squared up as he nicked but Parthiv was flat-footed behind the stumps. Despite covering the necessary ground diving right he shelled a one-handed chance. It was the only life Iyer needed as he went on to compile a 37-ball half-century, including 68 for the second wicket with Prithvi Shaw. By the 15th over, the target was under a run a ball and despite the trio of wickets that fell in a flurry sparked by Shreyas’ dismissal in the 18th, Capitals won convincingly.
USA Cricket selected ACE as its strategic partner to conclude a multi-stage evaluation process that began in November 2018

USA Cricket has received a boost of over $1 billion investment from American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) for the development of a domestic T20 league. USA Cricket selected ACE as its strategic partner to conclude a multi-stage evaluation process that began in November 2018. The launch of the league is slated for 2021.The billion-dollar deal is one of the biggest for the development of domestic cricket in the US. ACE is backed by Sameer Mehta and Vijay Srinivasan, the founders of Willow TV (the largest cricket broadcaster in North America), and Satyan Gajwani and Vineet Jain, of the Times of India group. USA Cricket had started the process by publicly inviting proposals for a US-based T20 league. They chose ACE whose proposal combined a large financial commitment to invest into the league, key deals for infrastructure and broadcast distribution, experienced and knowledgeable leadership, and a data-driven, analytical business strategy, which affirmed their ability to build a longstanding institution that will elevate US cricket.”USA Cricket is excited to partner with ACE to launch a professional cricket league in the United States. We were thoroughly impressed by their comprehensive proposal,” Paraag Marathe, USA Cricket board chairman said. “Vijay, Sameer, Satyan and Vineet provided a vision for the growth of cricket in the US on all levels, and we’re confident they will create a world class T20 league here in America. This is a watershed moment for cricket in the United States and we look forward to a long-lasting, successful partnership.”ACE has commenced major infrastructure investment towards international grade cricket venues in several US metropolitan markets. ACE is also working to develop additional turf cricket pitches and auxiliary facilities in more than a dozen locations. Based on a major/minor professional league model, the new facilities will provide, for the first time in the US, the ability to stage and support major domestic and international cricket at all levels. In addition, ACE will provide support for USA Cricket’s men’s and women’s national teams to ensure they can capitalise on their recent successes at the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 and the ICC Women’s Americas Qualifier, respectively. The league is expected to feature top international players from the USA team and around the world, combined with a focus on pathways to develop a homegrown player pool for USA Cricket and the league. A major component of ACE’s plans is the developmental academies around the country that will be aligned to the league teams and will help foster and develop talent at the youth levels to ensure a strong pipeline of cricket players.”Cricket has the second-largest audience in the world, and yet has little presence in the largest professional sports market,” Gajwani said. “We want to develop a lasting institution that brings to the US the excitement and passion of cricket, enjoyed by billions of people globally. True grassroots development of any sport takes decades and we are excited and committed to play a role in developing world-class cricket in America.A key highlight of ACE’s proposal is distribution, sponsorship and exposure for the professional league and for USA Cricket’s national teams via major TV and digital broadcast platforms, led by Willow TV which has over 4 million subscribers. In addition to the Willow assets, ACE and USA Cricket will seek out “free to air” platforms as well to ensure mainstream audiences are exposed to the league.

Daniel Farke and Leeds United have been showing interest in Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay, who's recently been recalled from what was supposed to be a season-long loan at Preston. Speaking in a press conference earlier this week, the Reds' assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed he would make another temporary move for the remainder of the campaign.
In the same update, Lijnders said that centre-back Nat Phillips would be following him out of the Anfield door. Like Ramsay, Phillips had come back to Liverpool early rather than seeing out the season at Celtic, but despite his struggles at Parkhead, he's generating considerable "interest". Leeds, it seems, are one of the clubs keen on the Englishman.
Leeds eye Phillips alongside Ramsay
According to The Daily Mail, Phillips could be a target for Leeds. The Whites are "keeping an eye" on his situation with a view to potentially making a move before the transfer deadline on 1 February. However, they may have to overcome significant competition if they're to win the race.
Nat Phillips in action for Celtic.
Cardiff and Blackburn are both eager to sign him, though promotion-chasing Leeds may be a more appealing destination for Phillips than the lower mid-table duo.
In a further update on Ramsay, Leeds are said to be "leading the way", but Southampton, who currently sit one place and one point above Farke's side in the table (albeit having played a game fewer) are in the picture too.
Leeds could profit from "absolutely insane" Phillips improvement
In 2019, Phillips was playing his football in the German second tier with Stuttgart, and he hadn't so much as made a Premier League appearance for Liverpool. The following year, though, the Reds lost Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to season-ending injuries before the end of July, and Phillips emerged as an unexpected hero in their absence.
The Bolton-born defender would play 17 top-flight games that year and win the club's player of the month award for March as he helped Jurgen Klopp's side salvage third place and Champions League qualification. Speaking in 2021, Klopp said only former Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski had improved as much under his tutelage, calling his development "absolutely insane" and hailing him as "one of the smartest players I ever worked with".
Since then, Phillips has spent half a season on loan at Bournemouth, playing 17 games as they successfully secured promotion back to the Premier League, and more recently at Celtic, where he only appeared six times. At £64,000-per-week, he would be one of the highest earners at Elland Road if Leeds agreed to pay the entirety of his salary, but the hope will be that Liverpool agree to cover a significant portion of that figure.
Phillips has experience of playing for one of the best teams in the Championship, and he could be an asset in the top flight too if Leeds go up given his unexpected contribution at Liverpool. If the Reds are satisfied that he'll play enough football in West Yorkshire up against Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon, then we could soon see him donning a white shirt.
